If Drive Selector switch is properly aligned then a shift silonoid might be the problem.

No not the whole transmission. Could be a band or servo. It still has to come out and be tore down to fix.

Why my ford explorer is turning off

Known problem with the Explorer and Expeditions. Call Ford as there is a problem behind the steering wheel that shuts this off and should have been a recall on them.

2005 Ford Sport Trac O/D Off flashes and hesitates when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear.

This is likely your electronic speed sensor. The part costs about $60-$70 and is a relative quick fix for a mechanic.

Transmission

The 5r55w transmisson is known for wearing out the case where the front and middle band servo pins go thru. If it wore the front band servo, it would slip in 2nd. But if it slips in 1st and 2nd it sounds like it could be a weak forward clutch. How many miles does it have on it. If you can get it up into the higher gears, does it slip in 5th. 2nd and 5th use the same band to apply them. Are you gettting and overdrive off light flashing? IF yes, what codes?

the transmission is loseing internal fluid pressure, its time for a rebuilt transmission. The A4ld that your explorer has is prone to trouble in this area. A good rebuilt transmission may cost at least $1700 dollars.
