Question about 2002 Mercury Mountaineer
I have a 2003 mercury mountaineer with over 1000,000 miles on it. Last night the O/D light came on flashing and the service engine light came on steady. It doesn't want to shift from a low gear into a high gear now. What could it be pls ??
Hi there William, your problem could be that the auto rquires servicing if there is a dipstick for the auto oil check the colour of it, if not red/pink. Maybe low on trans fluid. Auto parts shop for correct fluid.May require auto shop for code scan as well.

See if u have brake lights. This is what energizes the shifter solenoid. There are 2 fuses u can check both are in the under dash fuse panel. Fuse 23 (15amp) and fuse 26 (7.5amp).
To get it out of park turn igntion switch on stopping just short of engerizing the electronics then u should be able to get it out of park and into neutral.
