If the gear selector wont move at all from park it could be the brake switch. there is a release on most vehicles that wont let you move it from park without the brake being aplied. if the switch is bad then it will not move at all.

SOURCE: An automatic 2002 Mazda Millenia V6 2.5L is stuck in park

When you experience this problem, check to see if your brake lights are coming on. It could be as simple as a brake light switch malfunction. If the brake lights are functioning as the problem is occurring then you could for example have a problem with the shift interlock solenoid.

I have a 2005 Mazda tribute and while driving the transmission shifts from drive to 1st, then 2nd, then drive and it will do this off and on the entire time I am driving. The fluid looks clean.
