No --The purpose of the crank position sensor is to notify the ECM when the piston is in the correct position to create a spark for the cylinder.
regardless of the rpms of the engine, it sends a signal to the ECM and in the program of the CPU in the ECM and the ECM decodes to advance or adjust the spark after TDC ( the spark in relation to the ignition timing.)
High idle is cause by the idle speed sensor, MAP,MAV and VAF sensors . have the fault codes read a nd look for such a sensor fault.

SOURCE: I have trouble code p3016

What you have done so far is throw parts at your truck,
without vehicle knowledge.

If your going to work on your own vehicles ,spend the big
bucks at Helm.Com & buy the factory Powertrain Control/
Emissions Diagnostic Manual for year 2004 ford vehicles

You surely had to know as you proceeded, that all those parts
didn't fail at once & you tested nothing, to determine they were
in need of replacment.

Now you need to know why you have a PO316

Air,fuel,spark or vacuum leak.

Not easy to diagnose if you don't work at it for a living

What could cause a ford ranger 2003 to have a high idle speed while in neutral or driving. we have replaced the IAC, and the throttle position senor, and it's pigtail scene the trouble of high idle st

Ever notice how a normal working vehicle will have high RPM upon initial start up? Then it will go from 1000 RPM down to 600 after a few minutes? This is because it has working temperature feedback to the ECU. After the vehicle has warmed up, it automatically adjust the fuel / air ratio and RPM level. If your car thinks its cold all of the time, it will maintain this higher RPM. Even if you see the temp gage working on the dash, there may very well be a second, separate temp sender for your ECU. One is usually located on the radiator, and the other very near to the thermostat housing.

Try TPS. Throttle positioning Sensor. This sets base idle. (Unless this model is too old for that sensor)

1987 Ford Ranger 2.0L idle is very high and wont go down

Sounds like you need W-D40 on all the movable parts of your carb. Also see what is blocking the butterfly to close all the way. Check the high idle linkage and see if it is properly closing all the way on warmup.

Reset throttle position sensor on 87 ford ranger

Ok in the Haynes Repair Manual it say that the TPS sensor is non adjustable on a ranger. Now if you have an adjustable one you have a TPS block that you use to set this sensor. The best bet is to line up the slot in the TPS with the blade on the throttle shart.

04 Ranger rough idle

I would check your crankshaft positing sensor this may be bad. I would also change your spark plugs and wires becuase they may have got water in them causing a short between them and the head. I would very carefully use air to clean the dirt from your engine compartment first. Autozone runs a free code check for you and this will tell you your problem. To clear your codes and to make the check engine light go off take off your battery cables and wait 30 minutes. You may also have a bad coil which will cause a misfire as well and a 306 error means a misfire to your 6th cylinder so it's probaly this. I hope this information helps.
