Get the sender down on your harmonic balancer checked. This could fix the trouble that you are having or it could be the spark plug. I have a 5 series BMW and was having trouble with the gearbox and was told that it would have to be changed. I took it to a friend of mine that worked on all types of European cars and they used the right tools and it was the sender, cost just over $100 AU Dollars.

Fouled spark plugs

Usually one of 2 causes. Most common is a bad valve stem oil seal allowing the oil past the valve stem when the engine is shut off.Second is a broken or bad oil ring on that piston. Be blessed.

One plug foul after 200 miles runs ruff

the next time it fouls check the plug when you take it out, if it is covered with oil then you may have a broken ring on the cylinder that is allowing oil to pass through to the combustion chamber and fouling the plug. Or the valves pay be letting oil drain in past the valve seats.

Scott, 95 GMC 5.7L keeps fouling plugs

Hi Dale,

Several factors can contribute to spark plug fouling:

- The air/fuel ratio may be too rich as a result of incorrect carburetor adjustment or a poorly performing fuel injection system.
- Worn piston rings or valve seals may allow too much oil to leak into the combustion chamber, leading to oil fouling.
- The ignition system may not be performing properly.
- Prolonged idling or continuous low-speed driving may keep the spark plug from reaching its optimum operating temperature. Using too cold a spark plug can lead to the same problem.
- A dirty air cleaner can create a too-rich condition which can lead to fouling.

Have each of the above checked and corrected.

Fuel, oil and carbon fouling can all be the result of different causes but, once a spark plug is fouled, it will not provide adequate voltage to the firing tip and that cylinder will not fire properly.

In many cases, the spark plug cannot be cleaned sufficiently to restore normal operation. Hence, I always recommend that a plug be replace, once it becomes fouled.

Cheers,

Scott

I need to replace the spark plug of my 2007 Jeep Compass, 2.4 engine, FWD. What's the size of the gap? How hard to tight it, the number of ft-lb, when install it? Do I need to apply anti-seize lube?...

You might want to use the gapless plugs! Although they are a little more expensive, they have given me better gas mileage and also don't foul up.

Why do my spark plugs keep fouling? Car hestitates, putters especially in idle. what else should i check

Hello jonbon742, if you haven't already, change your air filter. 75% of the time when people have the symtoms you do it is caused by the air filter.
Best of luck my friend!

I got a 1999 gmc suburban and the number 6 spark plug keeps fouling out replaced the injector what could be the problem

what is it fouling with. If its fuel check spark and plug--if it's oil-more serious- could be valve guides or seal or worse could be an oil ring. Either way it is going to be expensive.

you can use some plastic pliers and pull one wire off the plug at a time and see if the rpm's change.
