Question about Cars & Trucks
I AM GETTING VOLTAGE TO THE INERTIA SWITCH BUT THE TRUCK WON'T START.
Most original fit EFI in tank fuel pumps are designed to shut down when the engine stops running with the ignition switched on. This is a safety system eg inthe event of a frontal collision which disables the engine and a fuel line is severed the fuel pump should shut off. Its considered not a good idea to run out of fuel as this can cause internal damage to the fuel pump also poss cause the fuel filter to be contaminated. Is this a siutable answer?

You need to specify the year of F150
If it has an in-tank pump, running it out of fuel risks over heating the pump as it relies on being submersed in fuel for cooling.
When you switch the ignition on without starting the truck you should be able to hear the pump run and stop when it builds pressure in the fuel system.
If you or your buddy listening at the tank hear nothing. Check the fuse for the fuel pump first. If the fuse is OK then likely the pump is bad. OH! make sure there is fuel in the tank first.

Testimonial: "The tag on the door says it was built in April of 1994 but the title has it listed as a 1995. I can't hear the pump run. When I turn the key on all I hear is a click. I'll have to drop the tank some so I can check voltage at the tank. I should probably plan on getting a new pump."

when u turn the key to run but don't start the fuel pump shuts off after 5 seconds + or - 2 seconds, this is normal, the common cause of no start on your truck is the TFI ignition module on the distributor, subject of many recalls for failing, also change the stator inside the distributor, use factory parts, aftermarket parts fail very quickly. here is a picture of the parts.
This is the stator
This is the TFI ignition module.
