Question about 2005 Rover 45 1.6

1 Answer

I have a rover 45 2002 and cannot put car into gear when engine running. got told it was slave cyclinder but wasn't, any ideas??

Mechanic been out said it could be master cylinder or gearbox. Since he has fiddled with slave cylinder, I can change gear but he has advised further investigation.

Try to bleed the system, if you have presure the clutch master cylinder is ok, but if the slave cylinder retracts by it self after holding the pedal , the slave is the problem, the slave is on the transmission, pushes the fork, the master is at the pedal where you apply the force.

SOURCE: rover 75 diognostic reports fault on cylinder 3 & 4

that simply means the #3 and #4 misfires. check the resistance of the coil if it is within the range. if not, replace the coils.
the scan tool tells exactly fault.

I had the car in storage for 35 days. Upon startup, battery was dead. I took the dead battery out(only 1 year old) and put in a good battery which started the car, while the car was running good I took out...

You recycle the old dead battery

Have no idea why you even put that back in

Common sense & your friend is correct

You don't disconnect anything on today's
vehicles, even with the key on

Put in a new battery, start the car, warm it up
& drive it for awhile & maybe you will get lucky
& it will complete some of the drive cycles & run some
monitors ,you know nothing about & it will be fine

If not, your mechanic friend should be about to stop
by with the bosses scan tool & help you out

It may go out on its own, the next time the computer does a routine system check. If two or three runs around town over the next few days doesn't clear it, only a dealer or a good mechanic with the proper scanner can turn it off.

Hi, My 1990 Nissan Pulsar will not move into gear. When I try to put it into reverse or any gear it grinds loudly? Thankyou Alison

Try putting it in gear with the engine turned off. If you can and then push the clutch in and start it and drive away Ok The clutch may have been stuck. What's more likly is the clutch master cyclinder has run out of break fluild ( it's next to the break master cyclinder but smaller) It needs to be full of break fluild and ussally (DOT 3) . If it's low top it off with clean fluid and pump the clutch pedel alot to get it working again then go back under the hood and llok to see there it's leaking at. Look int the floor as the peals rod comes into the car to connect to the pedal. If it's coming out ther it'll need and new clutch master cyclinder ( they fail alot) and or on the side oif the transmissin there the lines from the master connects to the clutch slave cylinder its leakingf and it can be replaced too ( common , even more common then the master going bad ) Most shops require if their going to fix the car to change them both.

I assume that the master cylinder is correctly installed. In that case the master cylinder's piston rod (to which the pedal is attached) is too short or maladjusted.

Cold radiator

Good idea , and make sure you run engine with rad cap off & heater on (not defrost) when your filling your rad back up. Let it run up to operating temperature & rad fan kick in 2 or 3 times before putting cap back on.
