It's been mentioned that the fuel pump is working. Possibly a bad spark plug or spark plug wire?

SOURCE: locate fuel filter, and safety switch to fuel pump

The filter is located at the rear seat, you have to remove it first, then you will see a cap attach with some screws. Inside that cap you`ll find the fuel filter. Before you change the fuel filter you have to release the fuel pressure first. To do that, first find the FUEL PUMP RELAY in the main fuse box located in the engine. Once you located open the fuel door and take off the cap and leave it open. Start the engine, take off the FUEL PUMP RELAY and leave the engine stop itself, when this occurs turn off the key, the you can take off the filter and changed it

what is anti-theft light doing? It should come on solid for about 2 sec after you turn the key on then turn off. If it is flashing after this then it is not seeing the computer chip in the key and you have a PATS problem.

My 2000 V6 cougar will not start. When we put starter fluid the car will start up, but then stops. Not getting fuel. What can be the problem, fuel filter?

Check behind kick panel to left of drivers foot for the inertia switch which may have inadvertently been tripped. May even be a label there. Should have a reset button to push. I'd try that first, unless you can hear the pump cycle when key turned on.

Turned of car, will not start it turns over, but doesn't seem to be getting any fuel

Try A SMALL SHOT Of Starting Fluid Sprayed into the Snorkel
Intake @ Air filter. If it Starts and Does NOT Run After Burning Starting Fluid the Fuel Pump Has Failed. (My Personal Hunch) is (FUEL PUMP FAILURE) BE SURE TO ELIMINATE THE INERCIA SWITCH< it is a fuel shut off switch >>>>> WARNING: Do not reset the inertia switch button if you see or smell fuel.

  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF.
  2. Check for leaking fuel in the engine compartment, fuel lines and fuel tank.
  3. If no fuel is apparent, reset the inertia fuel shutoff switch by pushing the reset button on top of switch.
  4. Turn ignition switch to START for a few seconds, then to OFF.
  5. Again, check for leaking fuel.
LOCATION

  1. Open luggage compartment door.
  2. Remove two screws retaining inertia fuel shutoff switch.
  3. Disconnect wiring harness connector from inertia fuel shutoff switch and remove inertia fuel shutoff switch.
  4. To install, reverse removal procedure.

2000 Mercury cougar fuel pump not turning on?

Check the fuel pump fuse first, if its good then check the fuel pump relay. Try swapping it with another like it in the area, If its also good, check for power at the fuel pump harness with the switch on. If power is present, the pump is most likely bad.

I NEED TO CHANGE A FUEL PUMP ON A 2000 COUGAR 6 CYL. CAN I DO THIS MY SELF--???

If there is a access panel to the tank then yes, If not then the tank has to be dropted. If there is an access panel then it is under the back seat or under the carpet somewhere in the back of the car. Look under the car to see where the fuel tank is ,then look in the car above the tank. When removing the pump be carefull not to bend the fuel gauge float falve.Good luck
