Question about 2002 Audi A4

2 Answers

I have an audi 2002 a4 v6 2wd lately it's been having an automatic transmission problem while driving the gear selector lights will begin flashing there is a loss of power almost like maybe it's stuck in 6th gear if you pull over & restart the vehicle it seems to fix the problem until it happens next time. Any suggestions as to what could be causing this would be welcome. Thanks

Sometimes the trans fluid gets contaminated an leaves deposits on the sensors and shift solenoids that the trans computer gets confused signals and has a hissy fit, stopping and starting begins the process all over again so maybe the auto requires servicing. Check condition of the trans fluid. Good luck Bill.

SOURCE: 2002 Audi A4 Esp Light comes on, car turns off when I have to sto

I had the same issue with my '05 A4 1.8T.  Turns out it was the RPM sensor.  Audi tried to tell me it was teh fuel pump and the cam-shaft positioning sensor.  Paid for teh fuel pump replacement and it died 6 blocks from the dealership.  Then they replaced the RPM snesor, works great now... Except it's still an Audi.

SOURCE: transmission stuck in third gear when selector in

The problem is most likely an input or output sensor on the gearbox. I tried changing the transmission oil which worked for a few weeks and the problem started again. I also tried removing the sensor and wiping them which also worked for a little while. In the end I bought a second hand sensor from a wrecker for about $60 and no problems for the last 4 months. You can find them online as a set for about $150 new but I have a little bit of scottish in my blood. There are a few posts on the web about how to change the sensor. It takes about 20 mins for a handy person and it took me about a half hour.

I have an 2002 Audi a4 1.8t it will not go into reverse and will not go into drive and won't move. Could that be from the shift cable?

If it has recently started to do this it might be due to a faulty gear selector or a collapsed torque convertor.
Looking through the responses to othe similar issues in other cars it seems that in the States there are devices built in that prevent the engaging of gears if the brake laights have failed. Check these also

Good Luck

Audi 2002 a4 v6 2.4l when the car first starts the RPMs surge up and down unsteadily this stops if you give a few revs on the accelerator pedal. When driving around 50kph the rpms surge slightly it feels...

You have two problems. The surging is from a dirty throttle body and /or air filter. The selector light could be from a bad selector switch or internal transmission problems. Have the car scanned for codes.

It seems like you need to have your car's TCM scanned .The flashing lights always mean a TCM going bad.You can get a rebuilt one for around $300-$400 in Boca Raton Fl.If you live in South Florida Call German Car Depot 954-921-1515 we can scan and install a new one if needed. Ollieracepnc

It sounds like your transmission needs a rebuild. It could also be a loose linkage, or low transmission fluid. Check both of those first.

I have been told I need a gearbox rebuild. Car Audi A4 2002

Hi there. Your vehicle is fitted with an electronic automatic transmission and I suggest that before any expensive rebuild work is undertaken on the transmission, especially when you say it drives fine, it that the intermittent electrical problem is resolved. You should firstly have an authorised Dealer check out the fault codes on the transmission ECU – this might identify where the problem is. They will also be able to perform a ‘Stall Test’ and again this will determine the effective operation of the gearbox. Hope this helps, Scottech.

1996 audi a4 transmission hard shifting

Get the transmission scanned at the dealership. If it has incorrect gear ratio code stored, it needs a transmission. Only the torque convertor or valve body can be replaced for any repairs at the dealership, so it needs to be diagnosed correctly. Any authorized ZF transmission repair shop can also repair them, more than the Audi dealerships can, so thats another alternative.

Transmission problem

A friend of mine has the same car as you, and in his car, he has to drop the gear selector to "2" in order to get the car going. When he drops it down to 2, about two seconds later the car goes into gear, and then he can drive it by shifting manually up. Once up to about 20mph he can put it in drive and leave it there. He only has to drop down to 2 when he comes to a stop. We've isolated the problem to the transmission control unit, which is under the carpet in the front passenger footwell. It's frighteningly expensive from a dealer (around $1600), but places like (an Audi salvage yard near Woodstock, NY) sell it for less than $300. That's the route he's gone (he's waiting for it to arrive now).
