When replacing a transmission do i need to fill the torque converter or will the pump prime the torque converter

The fliud will stay inside the torque converter mostly, After you re-installed the trans. add a few quarts, Start the car and while holding the brake switch the trans back and forth from DRIVE to REVERSE, then put in park, Check and fill the level to the full mark on the dipstick. through the dipstick tube using a transmission funnel,.. All while the vehicle is Warm/Hot and engine running

My 2002 dodge grandcaravan sport 3.3L goes into gear but wont drive or reverse fliud level is good what could it be?

well first you want to make sure the linkage is tight it might say its in drive but on the trans it might not be pushing the lever and or if electronic faulty sensor also check fluid color is it bright reddish if so thats good if its really dark and smells burnt probably somthing internally wrong you may also have clogged trans filter

Where do you check the transmission fluid?

The vehicle should only have an engine oil compartment, radiation compartment for antifreeze/ water, power steering fliuds, a water wiper blade spray dispenser compartment, and finally the transmittion fliud container area all situted within the engine entrapment area. Usually, opening the engine for the first time would require observing the fliud compartments that are identifyable from the remaining engine chambers. Observing closely on the fliud container should have written descriptions of what is expected within compartment. For example, the water fliud containers for wiper blades would usually have written lables as wiper blade fliud container, radiantion container would usually have the antifreeze demarkation logos visibly observable when engine is opened. Rely by elimination methods to ascertain the transmission fliud compartment. For example, once antifreze container, wiper water container, engine oild container, power steering fliud containers have been identified, the most like only remaining in the engine would be the transmition fliud compartment. Alternately, every fliud container within the vehicle engine is situated at separate areas. For example, the only fliud container closest to the transmittion chamber is the engine oil compartment. The vehicles usually require more engine oil than transmission fliud. Between both fliud containers, the smallest chamber for fliud oil is usually for transmission perposes in the absence of hydraulic fliud compartments with newer vehicles.

My car will not reverse but it will go forward

Sounds like a typical reverse band problem...cover the easy things first however... is the fluid full??? check it engine hot in the fluid burnt??? bad smell not red like out of the can... if its low or if its burnt make sure you purchase the proper fluid for your particular vehicle some trans fliuds dont mix...a trans service may fix it as the trans has a filter that (may) be clogged but usually this causes a non shift in drive as well as reverse...if all else fails sounds like a trans repair/replacement is in the horizons.Cost factors: Trans fluids $3.00 qt.: trans service $30.00-$100.00: Trans repair/replacement $600.00-$1500.00.

Sounds like a bearing in the transmission is failing. I would drain the trans pan and check for metal pieces in the bottom of the pan that normally don't belong there. Normal wear is a gray coating of material in the pan.
