SOURCE: 1988 mercury cougar 3.8 wont

Your problem is in the transmission. There are a number of things that could cause this but typically start by checking the fluid level, if that is good do a fluid and filter change. If that fails to correct the problem or you find a lot of metal in the pan, it will look like a gray goo in the bottom of the pan, have the transmission rebuilt and repaired.

Hi friend,
It seems to be that on the age of your car, the synchronizers of your gearbox are failing.
Try to take it to a transmissions workshop and ask them to test the shifts as you know they will fail. It could be possible to adjust it without dismantling it, but is a job for well equipped experts. It could be checked, assembled and tested in about four days on the shop.
This is not a job that you could repair at home, as it requires special tools and a place in which you can crane the engine and work from underneed the car. It is a frequent failure on that car.

Good Luck...!

Just had battery replaced and now right side windows won't roll down.

Remove the battery negative cable for 5 minutes to reset the body control module and see if that corrects the problem. This can be a coincidence you know.

My Yukon won't start.

My 02 trailblazer pulled that stuff on me. Finally disconnected both battery posts, touched together for 60 seconds. Pulled both PCM fuses together, reinstalled, reconnected the battery and started fine. Gremlins at play I guess.

2002 enovy surging after alt replace

First, make sure that you have everything installed back to its original configuration. Like, if you disconnected the Mass Airflow Sensor so you could get the air intake out of the way, make sure the intake snorkle is mounted properly and does not have any air leaks and that the sensor is plugged back in securely. These kinds of things will definitely cause an engine to surge. (this is the MOST LIKELY cause of the problem.)

If this is all OK, sometimes it is necessary to force all of your computers to "hard boot" if the battery cable has been disconnected. The problem here is that when the battery cable is disconnected, several of the control modules in the vehicle will power down at different intervals due to capacitors that keep them "alive" with the battery cable disconnected. This can cause several of the modules to set codes and make really weird things happen when you start back up. To remedy this, disconnect the NEGATIVE battery cable. Wait about 3 minutes, then touch the negative cable to the positive battery post for about 30 seconds. This will force a complete "draining" of all of the capacitors and reset the memory of all the computer modules. Then, when you hook back up, ALL the modules will reboot with fresh memory and no codes.

Will not start and draining battery, like its grounding out.

You did'nt say if it's a deisel? With the battery cable disconnected ( you have two with the desiel) the second battery on some models is on the side of the frame under the truck in a box. If one battery is bad it'll kill the other. ( thier dirctly connected together) Once found and the negative cable disconnected just connect one and see if the headlights will come on and note how bright they are. Disconnect that one and connect the other one. If their different connect the brightest one and see if you can start it ( it'll start with one good battery if it's not real cold) If it works replace the bad battery. sometimes the second battery gets overlooked during replacement and it might be too old or damaged. If the altenater went bad it can drain hard ( it'll be hot to the touch) Your power drain( if the battery is good) will make the bad part real hot ( watch out for fire). Bet you find a bad battery ( it'll be hot to the touch)

Can I reset my computer system in my 2006 chevy cobalt

if you disconnect the battery and touch the battery cables together for 30 seconds it discharges the capacitors in the modules and clears all module memory. it may shift funny and act funny because you also clear al your adaptive memories as well but it will straighten out after it relearns.

2005 tiberon gt auto shifts hard from 2nd to third when excelerating from a stop and shifter in D. no other shift problems up or down.

Try this first. Disconnect the battery cables from the battery. Touch/connect the two cables together for 60 seconds. Reconnect the battery cables to the battery. Drive the car -- see if this solves the problem.

Hi i have a land rover freelander 00.back door wont open or tailgate windoe wont go down, the rest of the doors work. help

try a hard restart, if that doesnt work then you need a new rear window motor. for the hard restart all you have to do is disconnect the battery cables and touch the positive and negative together for about 8 seconds. if that fails then a new motor it is.
