Yes a shorter belt will be ok . mostly the alternator can be used for adjustment. you will have to measure the length with a cord and get a belt to match.

SOURCE: shorter serpentine belt on 2001 jetta tdi

Yes you can get a shorter belt and bypass the ac. It may be as simple as going to the parts store and tell them you have 2001 jetta no ac. Just keep the receipt.
You should also disconnect the a/c compressor connectors/wires/plugs also, try doing this before you bypass the ac first incase doing so gives you warning lights on the dash board.
Also know that the defrost setting uses the a/c so it will take longer to get the condensation off the inside of the window.

SOURCE: 98 Mystique serpentine belt replacement to by pass A/C compressor

Good news...if you've got the 4 cylinder model, O'Reilly Auto Parts has a belt made by Gates Model #K060806. If you have the 6 cylinder model, it's Gates Model #K060623. I'm guessing you tried AutoZone first...I hate AZ for this reason alone. Anyways, hope this proves useful. Have a great night!

Maybe the bearings are frozen, it will not do any good to change belt, until you find out the bearings are not frozen.

Air compressor locked up what alternative vehicle belt can i use to bypass the a/c compressor on a 1999 crown victoria

does the diagram of the belt routing on the core support say one with ac and one w\o ac? if so autozone can tell u, if not, they may tell u that you need to replace the ac compressor, or buy some thing that re routs it. you can also try to remove the compressor, that way its out of the way, and take a string, run it as it would go, and measure the string, that will tell u what size belt to get

I don't know of any way to by-pass the A/C compressor or any component in a serpentine belt system; but, you can unplug the compressor clutch (at the nose of the compressor, behind the pulley), then the compressor will not turn and the pulley just acts as an idler.

I need to by pass my a/c compressor and need to know how to route the belt.

Because a/c has become pretty much "standard" on most vehicles instead of an option, belt routing without the compressor is generally a nightmare if not impossible. BUT there is a company (Pretty sure its Dorman) that makes a bracket with an idler pulley that is configured to fit right where the ac compressor was...Thet way, routing remains exactly the same and you can even use the same belt #.

1993 buick century ac by pass

If the comprtessor itself is bad, you can unplug the activation wire located up fron of the unit, this will allow the clutch bearing to turn separate of the compressor. If the clutch bearing is the cause you will have a problem, these belt systems are so crazy that it would be almost impossible to select a belt to do what you want.
