DO NOT ATTEMPT!!!!!!!!!!! Air bag is enclosed within the centre only competent mechanic's should attempt this as the air bag has to be disabled first.

SOURCE: terrible noice when I turn the steering wheel on my 2001 BMW 325i

Make sure you check your power steering fluid... if it's even low, it will make a terrible noise...run it on empty too long and your can ruin your power steering pump.

SOURCE: 2003 BMW 325I Power Steering

when looking at the engine with the hood up, look to the right hand side for something that looks like this (#1 in the pic): http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=ET37&mospid=47720&btnr=32_0957&hg=32&fg=20

it will be black in color, but don't confuse it with the oil filter housing. power steering reservoir will have a unique cap (#2 in the pic) that can be removed with your hand. the one that has the large nut on top is the oil filter. remove the cap and put in the correct fluid.

hope this helped.

SOURCE: Remove me Steering wheel bmw 1999 e46 3 series

Disconnect negative battery cable. Locate airbag retentions on back of steering wheel. Unbolt or unclip retention devices, and release airbag. Then: Unplug airbag electrical connector. Remove nut or bolt in center of steering wheel with pneumatic impact wrench if necessary . Using appropriate steering wheel removal tool kit, carefully remove steering wheel, paying attention to associated wires, etc. Unplug anything not accompanying wheel, or that is in the way. Pay close attention to any rods, or contact pieces associated with the horn button(s.) Replace these upon reinstall. Reverse order to install including tightening center bolt to 35-55 ft-lbs. If this is your first stg wheel removal, try an old chevy, preferrably someone else's! If inexperienced, don't risk bruising your favorite Bimmer!!! Hope this helps you make your decision. Bmw compact s reg. noisy when turning steering

Look inside the reservoir while the car is running and see if it is low. If it is turn the car off and add power steering fluid. You can purchase at a gas station or parts house. Some people use transmission fluid but it is not a good Idea because it can cetch on fire if you have leak in your power steering system. You can look for leaks when you have someone steer the car fom side to side. Make sure you turn the wheel tight so the whinng is at it's loudest. Check your power steering hoses and rack and pinion, etc. Hope this helps leave a comment.

Steering wheel and ignition look 1992 bmw 525i

Sorry I have not done a BMW but steering wheels usually require a puller to remove from the spline.
I have mostly worked on *** cars and the steering lock and key are removed without the steering wheel removed. The lock assembly attaches around the steering column, and is held on by some tamperproof bolts which break the hex off on installation, so you are left with round heads that look like rivets, I use a small chisel or punch to get them turning, it may be possible to drill the heads off as well, Sorry again if my info only relates to japanese cars, but hopfully I helped with the steering wheel removal.

How can i fix stiff steering on my bmw 316i

Assuming you have power steering, check fluid level in power steering system.
Check that the power steering pump belt has not fallen off.
Tires that are nearly bald can make the steering effort higher.
Do you have wheels that are not made for this car that have the wrong offset?
Check the strut bearings to see if they are frozen. Look under the front fenders while someone else turns the steering wheel. The strut and spring should turn with the wheel. If the top of the spring does not turn, then the strut bearings need to be replaced.

Cheaply replace steering wheel w/out airbag module

Lisa,

I don't know what state you are in... but in Massachusetts your truck will not pass inspection if the air bag is tampered with. A missing airbag will report to the OBD (your computer) and will cause a fail for your safety inspection. Sorry!
