For 3 years my heater blower has only worked on high speed. I got used to it, but now it doesn't work at all, UNLESS, I tap on the exterior of the motor casing which starts it going on high. What would be the probable cause of this? Take apart and clean something? or try whatever else? Thanks for your help. I am hoping I can try to do this myself rather than take it in for service.

IF YOU WANT TO DO IT CHEAP AND STAY WARM JUST BUY A PORTABLE HEATER THAT YOU CAN PLUG INTO A CIGARATTE LIGHTER IN THE CAR. YOU CAN BUY THEM ON EBAY AND OTHER PLACES FOR 20 DOLLARS. IT WILL KEEP YOU WARM AND KEEP YOUR WINDOWS CLEAN AND KEEP YOU SAFE. GOOD LUCK.

High speed doesn,t work on heater switch.

Pull the heater control panel out of the dash and inspect the blower speed control switch, look for signs of a burnt connector to the switch, it will be discolored looking, if this is the case replace the switch and install a repair connector

Heater / air conditioner fan control doesn't engage fan. Previously, it only worked in high speed.

I would replace the blower motor resistor first then see if that corrects this. The resistor is located next to the blower motor under the dash.

Heater/AC blower doesn't work at any speed

I would start by looking for a fuse that blew out. Depending on the vehicle, it could be clearly labled. fuse could be under the hood, or under the dash. it the fuse is good, next, could be a short, and most likely in the motor itself. What kind of vehicle; year, model? Dave

Blower motor

If its not working at all try this.

Find it up under the passenger side of the dash. They are a real treat to get at. With the key on and the blower speed setting set to high tap on the blower motor. If it starts working replace it. If it doesn't start working let me know and I'll get you some info to check wiring.

2002 Grand Prix heater/lights, My heater randomly works and if the heater doesn't work either does my head lights. I'm thinking it's my ignition switch?

If you mean that the Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) does not work when the blower motor does not work, then YES it COULD be an ignition switch problem. However, not very likely (please read on). The regular HIGH and LOW beam headlamps do not require the ignition switch to operate.

The main circuit that runs your regular headlamps also runs the blower motor HIGH speed. This has nothing to do with the ignition switch.
This circuit also operates the Power Mirror circuits and the Hazzard Flashers. You may want to check to see if these are also malfunctioning when this happens.

The Circuits for your other blower speeds go through the ignition switch along with the DRL control module, but your HIGH speed does not. So if it is your ignition switch, your HIGH speed should still work and your regular headlamps should still work. You will lose only your lower blower speeds and DRL if it is an ignition switch problem. You will have a bunch of other stuff going out if it is an ignition switch also. The ignition switch circuit that runs your DRL module also runs your Powertrain Control Module. So if it is an ignition switch problem causing your DRL to shut down, your engine will also be shutting down.

Fan for heater and defrost has quit. Where is fuse for this as well as location of heater motor if that could be the issue?

The blower motor is located und the passenger side of the dash. There may be a trim panel that needs to removed in order to gain access to it. Once you see it turn the key on and set the blower speed to high. Tap the bottom of the blower motor with the handle of a large screwdriver. If the blower motor starts to work replace it. If it doesn't let me know and I will get you the info you need to further diagnose your problem. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. My 02 Stratus heater only works on high. Any idea

Your blower resistor is bad. It controls the mutiple speeds to allow you to go from low/med/high. When it goes bad you get one speed or no speeds....It's about $20-$50 at any local auto parts store. It mounted directly to the speed switch or on the heater plenum unit on the passenger side behind the glove box....
