All cars have brake light switches. if your talking about the one that turns on the rear brake lights when you push on the brake pedal, then at the base of the steering column by the firewall if you look at the brake pedal you will see a switch that the pedal pushes against this is the brake switch. it has a wire connector attached to it. I`m guessing this is the brake switch you are referring too.

SOURCE: replacing tail light on Jeep Liberty

So you already have the screws out. You simply have to pull it out. It probably have a small plug or *** on the back side to help hold it in place. YOu can pull the unit fairly hard on it with out breaking it, just be firm with it and it should come right out. I'm not sure about the 3rd light, how it is mounted as well. Are you just changing the light bulb in it or changing the cover? If your just changing the bulb or cover you should just be able to take the screws out of the cover and use a small screwdriver to gnetly pry it off.

Check the wires at the back of the harness plug for any breaks. Some times they break inside the coating, so pull on them. If they stretch, it broke.

Why won't 2004 jeep liberty rear hatch door open?

There is no keyhole and switch on the rear hatch in Jeep liberty.
You can control the hatch by remote key and window/door switch on the driver seat side.
I don't know why they make like this, it's inconvenience.

The rear light assemblies need to be removed and the replaced. The filaments have either melted together or the wrong ones installed at some point. Let me know if you need anything else.
