Could be the coil or a few other things , have the OBD codes read as could be a sensor/switch at fault, ie the crank sensor , TPS etc

2004 Ford Focus LX, was sputtering while driving


A flashing light is BAD. Its damaging the cat converter. I would check or replace the spark plug wires ( if all OK, then) replace the coil pack. I would not replace anything unless they test bad. but these car are known for bad coil packs.

When driving engine cuts out spits and sputters, changed plugs wires and fuel filfer made no difference


could be bad coil pack or spark plugs check coil for cracks causing it to intermitenly fire or bad plugs causing power loss.

Check for a vacuum leak somewhere. When you have pressure by going faster it will not be a problem but if slow it will cause a problem. TLT

inspect boot of spark plug wires and for corrosion at coil where sp.plugs wires connect,good chance wires are due.

It can only be a few things for this. My neon had some power loss one time. I replaced all the wires, plugs, and bought a msd ignition coil pack.. try just checking your plugs and wires
