SOURCE: key stuck in ignition

Take the steering column cover off and tap/hit the ignition barrel with suitable tool (small hammer)while twisting on key.It may be enough to loosen it so key comes out.You will have to remove steering column cover to swap with replacment barrel anyway .Get someone to turn steering wheel while tapping/hitting barrel as it could be the steering column lock pin thats jamming.good luck.

I have a 98 mustang and the ignition will not turn to the locked position to remove the key. What can i do to fix this problem?

turn the wheel where the lock on the steering wheel will allow locking pawl to go in its slot. If that doesn't work you'll probably need a new ignition switch or some other part in the steering wheel locking system.

Why won't my '66 Mustang start with the ignition switch in start position?

Change your ignition key module and that will fix the problem. Problems with key modules can be attributed to the weight of the owners key ring. Some people have massive key rings with all sorts of gadgets on them causing them to become very heavy. This puts an unexpected load on the key module and the load can double with it swinging from side to side ect... Best advise, keep the key ring simple and light.

98 mustang ignition is locked up

If there is no excessive pressure on the lock such as the steering wheel in full turn position, and you have tried a spare key, you may have to have the lock drilled and replaced.

I've seen this happen with a faulty remote starter before. One of the relays shorted out and sent power through the brake wire to the ignition wire.

1998 ford mustang gt the key in the ignition stuck in on , had to disengage battery why is it doing this and what do i need to do ?

The ignition lock is hooked up to the ignition switch by a rod. I've seen the switch go bad but the connecting rod is plastic and can also break which is what it sounds like happened. You can start the car because the rod is pushed to start but when you try to turn it off it can't pull the rod because it is broken. The fix involves pulling the column apart. It can be dangerous ( the air bag ) and you need some special tools.
