Without further information, this condition maybe as simple as a faulty oxygen sensor. Without the amount of km's on your vehicle, this would not be surprising as most owners do not consider them a preventative maintenance item. Other obvious causes are a faulty injector(s), a vacuum/intake manifold leak. Changing the oil is to protect the mechanical internals of the engine from premature wear. It won't prevent wear indefinitely and all components have a life span unaffected by it. Any vehicle with high km's is going to have problems, P2096 is not nearly the worst of them. Further diagnosis needed.

P2096 I think points to a fuel trim too rich/lean condition... Probable causes of this are usually a mass airflow sensor, oxygen sensor(or wiring) and even a possible issue with the EGR valve. If your fuel mileage has noticeably gone down, I would probably go after the oxygen sensor, but usually the code p0135 or p0136 would be more directly calling out the oxygen sensor. Check to see if there is a leak in the EGR valve tube or the EGR valve itself is stuck open/closed before you buy any parts.

2096 is just an oxygen sensor issue

No big deal

I don't see any codes as the worst

You have to diagnose them all & learn as you go,
every day,every vehicle,every problem,or get out
of the car business

From now on Google your codes

Type: OBD P2096

OBD & any code sometimes a vehicle

You do realize we have had codes since 1981
some 35 years That should be long enough to
learn what to do when you get a MIL Lamp on the dash

Oil pump/engine ticking

I would go with the previous owners seldom changed
the oil & you bought a car with issues your not going to fix

( You checked the oil & it was thick, that told you what I
just said)

But you knew or expected as much, right !!

No vehicle uses 10W-30 oil in the last 25 years

Go with 0W or 5W-20 or 5W-30 & a half quart
of Marvel Mystery Oil

Mobil 1 Full/Syn

After that-- not much you can do except pull it
apart

Yes it would. 2W20 is fine when then engine is new. Upon piling up the miles on the engine a heavier grade of oild is needed. the same for hotter climates evn if the engine is new

Should be located close to the oil filter. It will screw in like a spark plug. It has a harness plug. Easy to change, save yourself $70 in labor. You will need a fairly large wrench to remove
