When that switch fails, you will have a hard time so much as starting the engine since that is its very purpose. when the trans is in any gear other than park or neutral, the starter should not work.

I.don't know what kind.of vehicle you have, but that price seems.high. Now about your question, you should to operate your ride. The purpose of the switch is to keep you from starting in gear. Just be carefull.

Find neutral safety switch on 2009 Toyota yaris where is it located and if faulty can I drive it?

that switch should be in the shifter assembly but i have my reasons to doubt that it is the issue. on some systems, that is a sign of a code that was stored.get the codes pulled and go from there.

Will a faulty neutral safety switch cause a car not to turn over?

Yes, the neutral safety switch prevents the engine to be started except in park or Neutral. When the switch is faulty, it will not start anymore in any position.

I have 2002 gmc savana i replace d neutral safety switch but i still having problems. The van does not want to drive or reverse. I turn it off and turn it on and it begind to work again. When i drive d van...

1. Look if the PRNDL light instrument panel. Every light should be on if one missing you have a problem.
2. Look for any PCM (Powertrain Control Module) faulty code with a scanner.
3. PRNDL switch must be adjusted at the right place. When you bought the switch it must have a small key attach to the switch. That's the adjusting tool for adjustment. Be very careful how to do it (switch adjustment procedure).
When the PCM senses a transmission fault it will code and take action on that code. ( Like depends what is the fault)
1. No TCC apply and no fourth gear engage and many more actions.
Faulty code appearing isn't time or synchronize with your problem.

When i have my 2001 ford ranger in drive and turn the air conditioner on it blows a fuse. I think it has something to do with the airbag. Have you ever heard of this?

The problem is most likely a faulty neutral safety switch located down on the side of the transmission, and that switch does a lot more in that Ford vehicle than just start the engine in neutral or park. If you do replace the switch be sure to align it while in neutral, and you should see the alignment marks on the neutral safety switch. Here is an image of the neutral safety switch.

There might also be an exposed wire that is getting grounded when you move the shifter into drive, and the wire could be under the dash or under the vehicle, and you should shift the gear shifter and look at the moving linkage parts to make sure that they are not moving or contacting any wires.

How can i fix my mazda 626 transmission range

The transmission range sensor aka neutral safety switch is located underneath the air filter on top of the transaxle and very easy to access. Replace this part (around $50) and it will solve your problem.
What happens is this, when your tranny warms up, it disperses heat to the sensor switch and if its faulty or worn out, will send faulty relays to the transmissiom computer module (TCM) and makes the transmission shift irratically (OD to 3rd and back while driving at freeway speeds). You tranny is not overheating like most people believe, its the switch. Mechanics are telling alot of people that their tranny needs replaced. Watch Out For These People!! They only want your money!!
