The switch on an automatic is attached to the transmission where the shift cable hooks on you have to remove the cable and shift lever in order to access/remove the neutral saftey switch.the car will probly move with a fualty switch however it will not function correctly as the PCM (power train control module) will not know what gear you are in

That switch should be in the shifter assembly but i have my reasons to doubt that it is the issue. on some systems, that is a sign of a code that was stored.get the codes pulled and go from there.

SOURCE: malfuntion indicator lamp in my toyota yaris

Most Auto Part stores like napa or kragen will read the malfunction code for you for free. Once you get that done post the code so we can give you a better understanding on your concern. Oh if your light is flashing please don't drive it that means you are doing immediate damage.

Take your car to your local autoparts store and have them pull the codes - this is free at most stores. Post the codes when you're done. This can be caused by anything - even as simple as not tightening your gas cap (you should hear the clicks - it doesn't damage the cap).

2009 Yaris VSS with manual transmission. Speedo and odo don't work and MIL has code Po500. No ABS light. Where is the location of the VSS sensor?

The Vehicle speed sensor comes from the combination meter , and that comes from the ABS ECU first . Could be a shorted wire , to ground , usually has something to do with the radio installation but faulty meter is a possibility .

Where is the safety neutral switch on a 2009 mitsubishi galant located?

If the vehicle is a front wheel drive, the switch can be seen on top of the transmission, under the shift rod. It will have a multi electrical connector attached to it. If the vehicle is a rear wheel drive, the switch will be on the driver's side on the transmission under the shift lever. It is easy to see and quite obvious. Good-Day!

It's on the transmission. The shift switch is the neutral safety switch.

Shifting problems 2002 dodge neon

I would start with checking the fluid level in the transmission.

With the vehicle on a level surface start it and let it run in park. Pull the transmission dipstick wipe it clean, reinsert and pull it out. If the fluid is not in the cross hatch area add 1/2 quart of ATF+4 and recheck the fluid level (it will take a couple of minutes for the fluid to settle out of the dipstick tube). Continue adding 1/2 quart at a time until the level is in the cross hatch area.

With your foot on the brake run the transmission through all the gears. place the transmission in park and recheck the level, adding as necessary.

Then drive it and see what happens.

1994 volvo has no reverse and maybe neutral

YOU COULD HAVE FAULTY TRANSMISSION NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH BUT CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL MAKE SURE NOT LOW .IF ITS BEEN A LONG TIME. CHANGE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FILTER.TRANSMISSION NEED MORE FLUID IN REVERSE BECAUSE NEED HIGHER FLUID PRESSURE TO APPLY REVERSE CLUTCH AND GEARS.
