Question about Cars & Trucks

2 Answers

I have a Fisher TAD5060 stereo that is giving an M-ERROR. I did see where drag can cause this error, but I also noticed that the gear that engages the sled from the chucking motor doesn't always make contact. The motor times out and gives the error. Does anyone have any idea of where I can get replacement gears for this? I've searched craigslist, eBay and just about any avenue. Help!

Try going to an auto salvage yard. The usually remove any undamaged stereo's or you may be able to find one for parts. If you decide to replace it with something else or even the same kind you should only have to pay 50% or less of retail. Also if the can somehow hook it up so you know it works that would be great, otherwise make sure you get at least a 30 day warranty. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: sequential transmission is not working right

My son just brought our MR2 with the same 3rd gear crunchy problem to the transmission shop. They said it is a faulty speed sensor which is engaging the clutch at the wrong time. A $200 fix!

Car shifts but gears do not engage

It sounds like you have a clutch problem, this is what happens when your clutch is no more, You may have noticed it getting sluggish for some time or lots of motor and not much acceleration. If this sounds familar, get your clutch checked. When it gives up, you are not going anywhere.

Pickup starts great, goes into all gears but won't move. It's like it is still in nutural.

Assuming the pickup is an automatic, check the transmission fluid. The #1 cause for transmission slippage is lack of Automatic Transmission Fluid.

If the pickup is a standard shift, the pin that connects the shift to the transmission has likely broken. You would still be able to shift from the inside but the gears won't engage. A bad clutch is also a possibility but you would have noticed a burning smell prior to the clutch giving out.

I am having a gear shifting problem with my Kia Sportage (4x4 Gasoline engine, 2009 version). taking off from an incline drive it is difficult to shift from first to second gear (grinding noise). Also...

Check your clutch fluid box located by your breaks master cylinder. Your clutch works like your breaks in that when you press the clutch pedal it uses hydraulics to disengage your clutch plate. If it's low or not working properly your clutch plate won't fully disengage and could lead to more problems.

While driving when aircon is off I can notice that the power is good when I switch on the aircon it reduces the power and it runs slow as if the car is heavily loaded.

the air conditioning compressor could be failing and dragging the engine down. Or the compressor could have already failed (locked) and the compressor clutch is trying to engage a locked shaft and is dragging badly. You need to have your a/c checked out before you burn out the clutch or cause further damage to the compressor.

I would say if you are "grinding" gears, The clutch will A) have to be repaired, or B) a syncro has gone out in the trany.

5speed ford ranger problem is shifting

Sounds like your clutch is not releasing enough to allow you to engage or disengage. It is dragging which causes hard engagement and disengagement. Possible causes are, Low fluid in the master cylinder to the clutch, or bad slave cylinder down by the bell housing, or badly worn pressure plate, or air in the line leading to the slave cylinder. You will need to eliminate these items one by one by testing to find the bad item in the system. Good luck

Engaging gears on X type 2004 2.o D SE

its the clutch, clutch plate worn and pressure plate spring a bit weak on one side and dragging.when engaging first engage second first then push up into first.or turn off engine ,engage first then start engine in gear. When changing clutch fit only a valeo, borg and beck.any branded make but not a reconditioned unit. This is a JAG remember,so no smoking in car, polish every sunday and cream the leather every second week .

Civic SI 5-speed transmission/clutch

it depends on how high your reving the engine. if your at the stock a3 rev limit (6900-7000 rpms), between 400 and 450whp. the shaft the gears are on starts to flex and gears separate, causing minimal engagement, which rounds off the edges of the gears.
with a almost stock a3 tranny (stock + quaife LSD), 415whp and 9000rpm rev-limit, it took 1 good race at the drags to damage the 1st and 2nd gear syncros. after a few more races the gears were moderately damaged too.

as far as a good clutch, if you can afford it, i would recommend the FX600 from ClutchMasters.
