My 2003 volvo s40 won't start but turns over. What could be the problem. I know I needed a thermostat but the engine is not over heating. I changed the fuel pump fuse.

I checked the fuses. I charged the battery. I listened to the gas to see if it clicks when starting so I know it's not the fuel pump.

SOURCE: want to replace signal fuse in volvo s40

i have a 98 s40. The fuses can be found internal (under the dashboard near the bonnethandle). Inside it you can find the fuse clamp and extra fuses. These can also be used for the external fusebox under the bonnet.
I have found the fuse that might be broken, but i can't replace it because it has some extra casing. It's for internal lights and the alarm.

SOURCE: How do you reset the check engine light on a volvo

The Check Engine light has nothing to do with changing the oil. The light is on because there is a problem with the emissions system. Even if you reset the light it will just come back on unless the problem causing it to come on is repaired. You will need to have the ECU scanned with an OBD2 scan tool. That tool will retrieve the code that has been set by the ECU. The code will tell you what part is being effected, but not necessarily what part or parts are defective. To determine that takes training, experience, and diagnostic skills. I suggest you seek professional help. If the engine is running fine there is no hurry but if it is not running as it should, then do not put this off.

How do I get my car to start it won't start. Charged the battery. The cars turns over. I know I needed a thermostat but the car wasn't over heating. Will that cause the car not to star

Obtain an OBD tester from your local Autoparts store. Run the diagnostic from the OBD port underneath the dash and see if you get any codes. Most likely you will and it will point you in the right direction. My bet is an ignition relay has died.

I have a 2003 Volvo s40. Recently the check engine light and DSA light have been coming simultaneously. Sometimes it is only the check engine light. The only symptom I have seen is that the car turns over...

So you really have done nothing at all

You never checked for codes
You never looked at scan tool data

You threw a part at it, with no testing

You had the check light cleared & lost ALL
Data needed to diagnose the car

Why cant i start my volvo s40 after a battery change

Have you checked your cables? Sounds as though there is a continuity issue, a break in the circuit. And I know through my previous research that there have been problems with the cables on this model.

2001 Volvo s40 seems to stall and not start for ten to 15 min. Also has high temperature reading that is false as car is not really hot.

You need to look at the temp sending unit it's probably faulty anthor issue with volvo is dirty throttle body's this raises havoc on the car they idle up down all over the map also you should change the thermostat too as a precautionary measure make sure it's the right temp for your year of your car thanx Chris

I have 2003 volvo s40, its check engine is on and i used OBD and gave me this code: P0015, anybody knows what it means and how to figure it out?

P0015-camshaft position actuator B-Bank 1 timing over - ******.

1.9 ltr right? Engine prone to sludge. Try and engine flush like seafoam (don't drive with it in your engine.... run it for a few minutes then shut it down) then change your oil and filter to a good quality synthetic. Then clear the code. Won't hurt it if you drive it with this code but can be annoying.

Engine check, code P0117, changed ECT SENSOR AND THERMOSTAT. It's coming back for the first 15 min of driving and stabilizes.

I would change the thermostat with the OEM adn it should be fine, the ECM needs to see a certain engine tempreature to control fuel ratio.

2003 Volvo S40 1.9T where is the thermostat located?

Its really easy... open the hood... looking back toward the car, its at the front of the engine, left hand side near the top... you'll see the hose coming out.. its held in with 2 large torx screws... make sure you change the rubber seal around the thermostat when you remove it.. also be aware some antifreeze will leak out.. so take proper precautions.. don't do it when the car's hot.. difficulty 1/10.. easier than an oil change.
