When driving the check engine light come on and car starts to surge pullover put car in park engine revving shut car off let set a few seconds starts up and runs good what is the problem

If your fuel is okay (no water on the bottom of your tank... and your intake (carbs or fuel injection) equipment is still mostly bolted securely to the engine (both reasonably assured by mostly working... when it is working: most of the time)... you are probably experiencing an intermittent blockage of the EXHAUST SYSTEM...

You may be experiencing the early warning. I got marooned twice: rusted or rotted parts... cut loose for a total failure.

First - by a blocked muffler in Fresno (great shop: Cal State Mufflers & Brake)... ''75 Ranchero GT... I think (been a very long while)

Second - by a catalytic converter FIASCO... Horrible/EXPENSIVE Clown City Jag dealer, Walnut Creek (my opinion: never forget).

Both ultimately left me standing by the roadside... marooned pretty good.

Don't wait see if your local friendly Ye Old muffler shoppe has any clever diagnostics... or wait for the catastrophe...

Your choice but keep a good book in the car
(pack a lunch (survival equipment too)).

Good luck

What would cause engine yo die at a stop light and not start again. The engine almost turns over but doesnt.

engines stopping at lights can sometimes be attributed to a vacuum leak in the brake booster
test by idling the engine with the hand brake on and no foot brake then apply the foot brake and if the engine dies then it is the brake booster
hard to restart may be the vacuum leak if you still have your foot on the brake.

Hi! Engine timing pulley question and general technical info. We are trying to get the timing correct on this 1993 Subaru Impreza LS. We noticed this one pulley jumps to three different locations,(loc

You have attempted a very difficult task without a service manual! First of all, there are precise timing marks on each cogged gear that have to STAY on those marks. There are tensioners that will keep the belt on those marks as you tense them up. Please do not start the engine unless the marks are perfectly aligned or you will surely damage the engine!!! Get the service manual, if you do not have it already!!!

Vw golf 2000 the brake pedal is to soft when you apply it and seems like is not going to stop but it does, what is the problem?

Not sure if you have done all this.

BRAKE BOOSTER INSPECTION

Functional test:
1. With the engine stopped, Depress the brake pedal several times, then depress the pedal hard and hold that pressure for 15 seconds. If the pedal sinks, the master cylinder, brake line or a brake caliper is faulty
2. Start the engine with the pedal depressed. If the pedal sinks slightly, the vacuum booster is working. If the pedal height does not vary, the booster or the check valve is faulty

Leak Test:
1. Depress the brake pedal with the engine running then stop the engine. If the pedal height does not vary while depressed for 30 seconds, the vacuum booster is OK. If the pedal rises, the booster is faulty
2. With the engine stopped, depress the brake pedal several times using normal pressure. When the pedal is first depressed, it should be low. On consecutive applications, the pedal height should gradually rise. If the pedal position does not vary, check the booster check valve.

Check valve test:
1. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose at the booster.
2. Start the engine and let it idle. There should be a vacuum available. If no vacuum is available, the check valve is not working correctly. Replace the check valve and retest.

END TEST

Check radiator fan and relays, did you replace the water pump, thermostat? You may have to perform a leak down test to see if you have a cracked block and or head issues. Check to see if all your coolant lines are in good condition and if you have any doubts, replace the ones that appear to be worn or leaking.
