Question about Cars & Trucks
To rule out a bad valve do a compression test on all cylinders. Secondly, these Vortec engines fuel injection system work on a poppet valve system and if either fuel pressure, a clogged poppet valve stuck open or close the misfire code will come on i assume yours must be closed since you get a lean condition. This is my fix and and excellent one at that. Go to the Autozone website and type in all your truck info and go under fuel injection parts, you will find somewhere that there is a conversion kit made by a company called Sorensen, this kit converts the system from the troubled poppet valve to a true multi fuel injection unit, your engine will run much smoother and wont be prone to a sticking valve. Now the job itself is pretty big as u ned to remove upper and lower intakes. On my van with the vortec 5.0 i purschased the upper intake which is not to expensive and the bottom intake i just cleaned and made sure none of the EGR oassage ways were obstructed with carbon, they were! Make sure you mark the dsitributor as you would need a good scanner to re set timing if timing is moved, happened to me. Discinnect battery as well. If you have a pick up its much easier to work on than a van. By the way my MPG improved with this new upgrade. GM also knew they messed up with this system and they also offer an upgrade kit but its too expensive for me, this upgrade has been on my van 4 years no problem, good luck.

Try holding a single sheet of paper about an inch from the tailpipe. If the paper gets sucked toward the tailpipe when the miss occurs, this is another indication of a burnt/leaking valve. It means an exhaust valve is leaking on the intake stroke.

even if your car runs smooth it does mean that has no issue.
in fact when you require more power then it is when plugs have to fire more ,so no power equal more spending in gas and other factor.
the plug have to be replaced of course and unfortunately you need a specialized person to perform it unless you have the right knowledge to do it.
good luck and do not forget to Zkeep calm ,the best on Fixya.

SOURCE: 1997 chevy truck running rough
Is this a 5.7? They are notorious for intake manifold gasket leaks. When mine did it, the diagnostics blamed it on an ignition misfire also! Replaced the gaskets and it runs smooth!

check the temperature sensor for the computer. it may be telling the computer that the engine is still cold and causing the engine to run too rich at warmer temps

fuel lines inside the intake plhenum may be cracked and leaking inside the plhenum. same thing happened to my 1992.sonoma. they are made of a plastic material and tend to crack right in the bend of these lines.
