Question about 2002 Jaguar S-Type
Have checked fuses but not them the footwell lights work but no main interior lights or map lights cannot switch on or off and opening the door the lights do not turn on either.

take off the cover and replace them. if you have a volt/ohm meter you can put if on the car side and make sure you have voltage and the ohm meter on the buldb should give a 1 rating if its good. it would be the cheapest and easiest to just get a new bulb and see if it works then start checking fuses if its not the bulb.

I'm assuming you have checked all the obvious = bulbs/switches/fuse etc?
Can you switch the lights on manually ?
Is it the same if any door opened = no light?
If so =
the light timer/fader control may have failed.

Thank you so much for your follow up about the loose connection under the glove box..
I had exactly the same problem and the local ford dealer could not fix it. Was going to take it to the Jag dealer but did a search and your question and follow-up saved me a trip and $
