Could be a clogged fuel filter as well. On the top of the engine there is the main supply hose to the fuel rail. Disconnect this and place it in a clear pop bottle. It should flow at good pressure and volume. The specifics for your car is available either by calling the dealer or google. If low try on the tank side of the fuel filter. Next ensure pump ground line is good. Hope this helps.

My olds silhoutte i ran out of gas and now i have gas it jirks and i cycle the key 3 time i have to oump gas peddle the it will start but soon i i quit pumping it dies and takes a wile to start again

This sounds like the fuelpump is bad, it may have been on its way out or when you ran out of gas it sucked up all the dirt at the bottom of the gas tank. it sounds like the pump cant produce the correct amout of pressure needed to keep the engine running. if you have a fuel pressure gauge you can test the pressure and know for sure its a bad fuelpump. you would connect the gauge to the valve on the fuel rail and then turn the ignition on and there should be 55psi of pressure. if the pressure is lower by more than 4psi or no pressure then replace the pump which is located inside the gas tank. i think you will find that the fuel pump is bad. good day. hope this is helpful.

I smell gas when driving my 97 land rover discovery. I do already know I need a fuel pump. Is the gas coming from too much being injected into the engine, thus leaking out because of the bad fuel pump?...

I know that if a fuel pressure regulator is bad it will emit the fuel smell under hood. but just be sure you have no fuel leaks in the fuel lines first. good-day !

We have a 1995 jeep grand cherokee limited 4 wheel drive. how do you know when the fuel pump is going bad?

you will notice that your vehicle acts like it is starving for fuel, and sometimes , the engine will even die, and then start back up, a lot of fuel pumps can be saved by people not driving their vehicles with a 1/4 or less amount of gas in the tank, because when the the tank gets very low, the fuel pump has to work harder to pump the gas, and even overheats when trying to pump the low amount of gas to the engine therefore resulting in the fuel pump going out.

Every time you try to pump gas, the gas pump shuts off every 5 seconds. Doesn't matter how slow or fast you allow gas to come out. Doesn't matter what gas station. You never know when it is filled. Gas...

try disconnecting the fuel line leading into the fuel pump, let out a little fuel, then reconnect it. then disconnect the fuel line leading out of the fuel pump, letting out a little fuel.
if that doesnt work, run the car completely out of gas once. turn the engine over a few times while empty.
have you tried pumping gas with the enigine running? see if that helps. if this does help, it is probably the vacuum someplace, near the fuel injectors?
