Awful rattling noise when reversing and turning


you are right about the bearing going to bits, it is called a CV joint. it allows the driveshafts to the front wheels to flex as you turn left or right and one is coming apart if one is going bad the other side will too soon, get them both replaced. If you don't, when it breaks completely it will cause MUCH more damage

this sounds like a brake issue and usually the emergency brake..lift rear of car to see if the wheels will turn if one does turn .remove tire and loosen brake bleeder screw to see if you can release brake pressure.after that tighten bleeder screw and remove brake drum.if the wheel has disc brakes you will need to remove emergency brake cable if it is too tight to remove you need a new one anyway so take a hack saw and cut the cable at the brake unit

take off the low pressure hose,( the ones that attach with hose clamps)then start the car turn the steering wheel back and forth, re-attach the hose and fill with new fluid, it might take a bit to get all the air out, just keep turning the wheel

How to replace drums on 2003 Hyundai hatchback


Are you talking about brake drums? If so then I would be a bit concerned about what is causing them to deteriorate... Brake drums can last a long long time before they need to be replaced. But to answer your question...

1. Remove the wheel by loosening the lug nuts (you will likely have to pull off some plastic caps from the nuts first), and then
jack the car up at the wheel you want to change the drum on, and make sure it is sitting securely on a jackstand or a sturdy block of wood, or something where it won't topple over. Once the wheel is off the ground, completely remove the lug nuts and pull off the wheel.

2. Pull off the drum. These are often a bit stubborn to come off, but if you give it a few taps with a hammer or a block of wood or something around the edges it should eventually wiggle off.

3. Put on the new drum. If the old drum was severely worn, then you probably won't be able to just slide the new drum on because it will be too tight. However, if you look at the bottom of the brake assembly there will be a little adjuster gear setup that looks something like this http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/drum-brake8.jpg . On some vehicles it can only be accessed from the other side of the backing plate, but most can be gotten to from the front. Using a flat head screwdriver start turning the little gear in one direction. You should see the brake shoes moving either inward or outward. If they are moving outward then turn the adjuster the other way. keep going until you think the brakes have come in sufficiently enough to slip on the new drum. This may take some trial and error. Once the new drum is on you are almost finished.

4. Put the wheel back on. with the car still jacked up, put the lug nuts on as tight as you can with your fingers, and make sure the wheel doesn't wobble too much. If it does then you may need to put a wrench to tighten them a bit (no too much) before lowering the car.

5. Pull out your jack stands and lower the car down.

6. Tighten up the lug nuts in a star pattern as evenly as possible, and make sure they are good and tight. Use a snipe if you feel it is necessary.

7. Start the car and put it in reverse. By backing up a few feet the automatic tensioner in the brakes will set the shoes up to the right distance away from the drum and you are good to go. Try driving forward slowly and make sure the brakes feel solid. If it feels like they are not engaging then try going a little further in reverse and that should fix it up!

IGNITION AND STEERING LOCKED!


Try pressing the key down little bit while you are trying to turn it towards ignition, at the same time slowly turning the steering wheel clockwise and counter clockwise ( it's locked but it still moves a little bit), it should release the steering wheel lock. hope it helps

Jack up car take off wheel and undo split pin and undo nut Now hit the bit a few times hard the bit that holds the tierod end in ( do not hit the thread of tie rod end as all you will do is stuff it and bend the bottom arm))) so hit the bit that is holding it and it will drop out then und the nut holding the tierod to sleeve and COUNT the threads or the amounts you turn it and it could be left/right thread ,
And reverse removal when fitting But if your counting is wrong then you will need a alignment to Front end

Where does scion tc manual transmission fluid go?


Heavy tools needed:
-Floor Jack
-Jack stands
-wheel chuck

Hand tools needed:
-3/8" drive ratchet
-12 mm deep socket (a 6" extension isn't shown but also recommended)
-1/2" drive breaker bar
-1/2" drive 10" extension
-1 1/16" deep socket
-1/2" drive 24 mm short socket
-oil catch can
-funnel

Steps:
1)Put the wheel chuck behind your back tire and Pull up your e-brake

2)Find floor jack position

3)Lift car until you can fit jackstands under the car
4)Lower the car a bit so that it sits flat on the jack stands and the floor jack still has a bit of pressure pushing up on the mount

5)Locate the reverse sensor in your engine and unplug the grey connector on it.

6)Right behind it is a 12 mm bolt you have to remove. Use the deep socket 12 mm, extension and ratchet to remove it and just move the metal braket aside a bit.

7)Now use the 1 1/16" deep socket to remove the reverse sensor.

8 )Now get under the car and locate the drain plug.

9)Use the 24 mm socket and the 1/2" drive breaker bar (if your socket is 1/2" drive) and loosen/remove this bolt. This WILL be messy so make sure you have your oil catch can under neath it.
Try to hold the bolt in place as the fluid comes out until a good bit has drained. This will prevent it from going everywhere.
Just let it drain for about 5 minutes.

10)When it's done draining, replace the drain plug and tighten a good bit. It has an aluminum washer so it'll feel like it can keep tightening but just go until you feel it's very snug.

11)Lift your car off the jack stands and lower the car back down. Remove the oil catch can prior to doing this.

12)With car on the ground, grab your funnel and place it in the hole where the reverse sensor would go.

13)Add 2.5 quarts of your desired gear oil. You can use Redline MT90, Amsoil 75W/90 gear oil,...Just make sure it's GL4 compliant

14)Replace reverse sensor and tighten. Again, this also has an aluminum washer so just tighten it until it feels nice and snug. RECONNECT THE GREY PLUG!

15)Replace the 12 mm bolt and just hand tighten until snug.

16)Prior to starting the car, push the clutch in and move through the gears slowly. You should notice a nice, smooth gear transition.

17)Last, clean up, remove wheel chuck from rear tires, and go take it for a spin.

1997 subaru outback make clicking noise on in reverse. Also, sometimes when the car is turned off, the car lurches a bit


does it click while reversing straight or while turning? Sounds like a stick shift. Lunging probably due to e-brake needing adjustment(if stick shift). If your car only clicks while turning in reverse you need new front axles and can probably drive that way for a while

put in " N"
turn the 4X4 switch on
Then put in gear..
What do you see now?
Do the same in reverse when you take out of 4X4
