There are small holes on the back side of the steering wheel that you can insert a small flat blade screwdriver into for releasing the lock tabs which hold the horn pad/air bag on to the steering wheel frame. DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FIRST, as you will actually be interfacing with the driver air bag. If you can't figure it out, please post a photo and I'll try harder to help.

SOURCE: 1999 toyota corolla Horn doesn't work.

Usually the wire from the steering wheel is Green w/Red and the wire to the horn from the fuse box is White. There is only one fuse, sometimes shared with the emergency lights. Check to see if there is power to the horn itself with a volt meter.

SOURCE: 1998 Ford windstar horn wiring

There is something called a clock spring in the column that is used for the airbag, horn and cruise control buttons. This clock spring if messed with will cause a/bag light to come on and possibly cause a/bag failure if there is a collision. DON"T mess with the wiring in the column. Run new wires in to the horn or install an a/market horn.

More then likely the coiled ribbon electrical contact under the steering wheel is defective, it is called the "clockspring" contact.

What would cause the horn of a car to go off unexpectedly?

a horn pad problem on the steering wheel can cause this but its rare to happen on any Mazda car. a horn relay that has shorted out will cause this to happen. you will have to find the relay and pull it out the horn will stop.

Horn working only when i turn the steering

then you need to remove the steering wheel and clean the tarnish off the brushes (springs and pins pressing against concentric copper circles) that lead to the wiring harness.

My horn keeps beeping when I am driving

You could pull the horn relay or disconnect the horn.
Problem could be the relay or the horn pad on the steering wheel, or a short in the steering column.

Horn wont quit

This happened on the 94 323 I used to have. Remove the cover on the steering wheel(If I remember correctly, it just pulls off). There is a pad that goes between the horn contacts and the steering wheel cover that breaks down over time. You can replace it with a couple layers of thin foam with a hole cut over the contacts so it will work as intended again.

Hope this helps.

Horn does not work on a 1993 cutlass ciera

Try to find the horn and use a test light to try to ground out one or the other contacts. The horn should be energized at all times, as long as the battery is charged.

The horn should sound if you ground out one or the other terminal with a test light. If not, then the horn is bad.

Also, one can check the button at the steering wheel. If one uses a test light to ground out the switch there, the horn should sound.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Without Air Bag

Disconnect the battery ground cable before removing the steering wheel. When installing a steering wheel, always make sure that the turn signal lever is in the neutral position.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. If your vehicle is equipped with controls for the radio on the steering wheel proceed as follows:

  1. Pry out the control button assembly with a thin bladed tool along the top of the edge of the assembly.
  2. Disconnect the steering wheel control.

  1. On vehicles without the radio controls on the steering pad, take a thin-bladed tool and pry the pad off the steering wheel. On wheels with a center cap, pull off the cap.

  1. After lifting the trim off, pry the horn wires from the back of the pad. On some models gently push down on the horn lead and turn left, the wire and spring will then come out of the canceling cam tower.

1995 Prizm Horn Problem

keep the steering wheel in one spot, do not rotate,  check horn by pressing pad in different areas.  If it is intermittent then horn pad is concern.  If it works well trying slowly turning steering wheel while pressing horn pad if there is a point in turning the wheel where horn becomes inop, then the common fault is the horn contact ring inside of the steering column

Horn sticks on my 1994 mazda 237. Started at 3am this morning and would not stop untill battery cable pulled.

I sort of had this problem last year with my 1991 Protege (and may again when the weather gets cold). Your metal contacts in the horn compartment of your steering wheel are touching. They most likely melted a little in a heat wave and then with a sharp cold, probably an overnight chill, they contracted, causing them to touch. My horn tended to go off while I was driving, thanks to potholes and a high idle making my car vibrate while stopped at lights (very embarrassing!).

You may be able to bend the metal a little after you disassemble the steering wheel front (disconnect the battery first), but you will have to find where on the pad the foam has worn out. You can remedy the problem with your own pieces of foam stuck in where the metal is close together or can cut out a new foam pad with supplies from a craft store. Repair shops may charge close to $100 to replace this pad (it's glued on I think and wears away like an exposed seat cushion over time).
