Why is the hold indicator still comes on, on the dashboard. Does it have anything to do with the transmission?

You have no vehicle shown here

No one coming here does-- for some reason

I would look in the owners manual

It it isn't there-- your only option would be to ask a dealer
or repair shop or maybe trans shop

I have never heard of a hold indicator

What troubles me, is you say still on ,your asking for trouble
the day it first appears, if you have no answer in 24 hours
& continue to use today's technology

That said--- I am in the USA-- You could be anywhere
in the world,we seldom get any info at all to help find folks
an answer

If it is a transmission related issue, you best stop using
it immediately (i once owned a trans shop)
You do not want a $4,000 or more repair bill

Light indicator of the shifter not working in the dashboard

there is a 15A fuse supplying the (EFI no.1) circuit which must be burnt because it controls:
  • Transmission Indicator
  • Engine Control
  • Engine Immobilizer System
This has to be your problem, hope this helps

hold indicator?? thats gotta be somethign else if it was your transmission lol you would have like and engine block light come on. if its a hold that means you got a brake on or something your e brake might not be off or the sensor is messing up. i dont know what year your car is but try this and disconnect your car battery for about 10 minutes and reconnect it.

Automatic transmission
The transmission has responded to a malfunction by reverting to operation in its emergency default program. Please consult the nearest BMW center.
For additional information: refer to page 59

(page 59)
Electronic transmission control module
If the indicator lamp comes on, there is a malfunction in the
transmission system.
Bring the vehicle to a stop. Move the transmission selector lever to "P."
Engage the parking brake and turn the engine off (ignition key to position 0).
Wait a few seconds, then start the engine.
If the indicator lamp goes out after a few seconds, normal transmission performance has been restored. You may continue to drive as usual.
If the indicator lamp does not go out, you can place the selector lever in all positions. However, the vehicle will now only operate in 3rd and 4th gear.
If this happens, avoid extreme engine loads and consult the nearest BMW center. hope this helps you to aviod ruining your vehicle

Transmission control module repair

Did you buy a used transmission? Mitsubishi transmissions will do that for two reasons that I know of. 1 If you overheat your transmission it will flash between drive and neutral to let you now to stop ans let the transmission cool down. 2 If you do not put Mitsubishi ATF in and put Dextron ATF in the car will feel like someone is tethered behind you thus overheating the transmission. My dashboard lights (battery emergency brake light & air bags) are flashing on my dashboard while driving but go out when I come to a stop on my 2001 santa fe

Whenever this warning light or any other stays on in the dash it is indicating that the systems control module (or the system sensor in the case of lights like low oil pressure, door open indicators etc.) has detected a fault, it then disables the system (this applies to ABS,TCS, TCM, SRS and BCM faults and others) as long as the light is on. You must now have the dealer hook up a special electronic diagnostic tool and "scan" the system for the fault code that is stored for the problem(s)

Sounds like the shift cable is damaged or loose. The cable connects to the shifter under the center console, and runs down to the left side of the transmission. It connects to the transmission near the left transmission mount. It is possible that the cable popped off of the shift lever on the transmission, or there is a clip that holds the cable to the trans that can come off.
You need to have somebody somewhat competent in car repairs take a look at it. There's very little chance there is anything wrong with the transmission itself. It shouldn't cost too much to fix.

Changing dashboard light


This solution will be of great help to you,even in the case of future or other dashboard problems;
Instrument cluster consists of electronic analog gauges, various warning lights, and optional tachometer. Vehicles equipped with tachometer have an electronic vacuum fluorescent transmission range indicator (PRND3L),odometer and trip odometer display. Vehicles without tachometer are equipped with a cable-operated transmission range indicator.
Instrument cluster is equipped with the following warning lights:
Battery voltage.
Cruise (speed control).
Door ajar.
Fasten seat belt.
Lift gate ajar.
Low fuel level.
Low windshield and washer level.
Traction Control.
The Body Control Module (BCM), which receives input from various sensors, sends display information to instrument cluster and operates gauges. Instrument cluster incorporates a self-test diagnostic feature to identify electronic problems. BCM, Powertrain Control Module (PCM), and Transmission Control Module (TCM) are continuously monitored by the diagnostic system.

With ignition off, press and hold TRIP and RESET buttons while turning ignition switch to ON position. Continue to hold TRIP and RESET buttons until odometer window displays CODE (approximately 5 seconds). If problem exists, system will display diagnostic trouble codes. See DIAGNOSTIC CODE CHART table. If no problem exists, Code 999 (end test) will be displayed.
110.......Cluster Memory Fault
111.......Cluster Calibration Fault
905.......No CCD Bus Message From TCM
921.......Odometer Fault From BCM
940.......No CCD Bus Message From PCM

After diagnostic code display ends, instrument cluster will go into each of the following tests in order:
Dim test.
Calibration test.
Odometer segment test.
Electronic Transmission Range indicator segment test.
Dim Test
CHEC-0 will be displayed in odometer window. Instrument cluster will dim Vacuum Florescent (VF) display. If VF displays do not dim, a problem in instrument cluster exists. See BODY CONTROL COMPUTER TESTS in BODY CONTROL COMPUTER article.
Calibration Test
CHEC-1 will be displayed in odometer window. Each of instrument cluster gauges will move sequentially through each calibration point. See GAUGE CALIBRATIONS table. If gauge needle is not calibrated properly, a problem in instrument cluster exists.

Odometer Segment Test
CHEC-2 will be displayed in odometer window. Each segment of odometer will light sequentially. If any segment does not light, replace instrument cluster.
Electronic Transmission Range Indicator Segment Test
CHEC-3 will be displayed in odometer window. Each segment of electronic transmission range indicator will light sequentially. If any segment does not light, replace instrument cluster.

All dashboard/ center console lights out.

Test the dash first. Put key in hold down trip reset botton. Turn the key to on but don't start. Release the trip botton. Should turn on all dash lights & check for codes in the odometer. If getting codes reply back.
