Could changing the fuel pump caused air in the fuel pipes? If so how would i get the air out? Thanks

Air between the pump and carb or between the pump and fuel tank ?

is this a diesel? if so you have got air in the system there is a bleeding system you should follow after filter change which normally involves switching ignition on/off 6or 8 times with few secs in between with ign on to bleed air from system if it got a electric fuel delivery!. or if its mechanical a vacuum prime pump is needed which may be a dealer bit of kit which ever it is dont try and start until the air has been removed. you must not get air in to tha high pressur side. i suspect @2008 it will be common rail system and can cause major probs if you get air in the high pressure side not easy to advise you dont say what engine you have. if its petrol then changing the fuel filter should not cause a prob if fitted correctly,if its common rail diesel and you have got air in the high pressure side you have to slacken the high pressure pipes and keep cranking the engine to exclude the air after 1st bleeding the low pressue side of the system then retighten the pipes. but any high pressure pipes loosened should be renewed they are normally one use only and could leak if not good luck

If it the pre 651 engine then this will apply you will have a high pressure fuel pump mounted on the front of the cylinder head, The plastic fuel pipes that feed this pump have " o" rings that deteriorate and let in air causing poor start, The answer is new plastic fuel pipes between the fuel filter and high pressure pump.

By pass pipe crimped or blocked, most tanks have a pipe from the top of the tank to the neck of the filler to allow air to escape from the tank as the fuel is put in. If the pipe gets blocked, air has to come back up the filler pipe and it bubbles the fuel and backs it up to the filler causing the pump to knock off. Hope that helps.

If u disconnect pipe at engine end do u get a good flow of fuel from pipe if just dribbling u may have a blocked pipe u need to blow through with air line make sure u take of fuel cap or u will blow out ur tank, if that's ok check ur fuel pump if faulty replace pump

there could be many issues why such as loss of fuel, air not getting into tank causing fuel starvation. ingition managment system may be defective, the air filter is blocked, or the exhaust pipe is blocked.
causing air starvation. for the engine to run it needs fuel, air and ignition.
if any one of these is missing the engine will stop.

to check fuel, open your filler cap, if you hear the air rushing in as you open it this could be the problem, with the cap removed try to start the engine. also check to see if fuel is being pumped into the engine, either the fuel managent system or the fuel pump needs to be looked at if this is not happening.

for the ignition, check you are getting a good spark, and that your plugs are clean. if they are wet or coated in white this may mean your fuel mix is not correct.

Sounds like you will have to look into your O2 sensors which will be located on the exhaust pipe, as well as your MAF (Mass Airflow Sensor) This will be located on your intake pipe somewhere between your throttle body, and your air box. Those are the only two things I know that can cause intermittent shut down. I sometimes take a can of brake cleaner and spray the sensor on the INSIDE of the intake pipe and it will clean it. That's s failure of the secondary air pump. It'll have to be changed. It's an emissions component meant to help with cold start emissions. It won't cause engine running trouble but at inspection time you'll fail for smog. Change it before then and you'll be fine.

check the fuel lift pump does it pump fuel (remove outlet pipe and operate pump lever check to see if inlet pipe has not cracked and allowing air to enter the fuel system
