Ichanged the head on my 91 geo storm 1.6 dohc and now it won't start

Double check crankshaft timing mark, on your lower timing cover has some timing marks - crankshaft should be on the 0 mark. Camshaft timing marks--intake camshaft mark set at 3 o'clock and exhaust camshaft mark set a 9 o'clock. These timing marks are critical for motor to run and start correctly. These timings marks can move while trying to install the timing belt. After, you confirm or reset timing and belt, you can confirm timing is correct by rotating the crankshaft twice. Your timing marks should be on right on timing marks discussed at the top of the page. If timing marks are off, start over with timing process.

When timing a 2000 2.4 dohc chain .I know to line the 1/8 holes on cams. Do i need to turn crank two rounds to get on a compression stroke. What i did was replace waterpump and chain move so when i tried...

you replaced the lifters? why? the engine is out of time, the cam position determines if its on compression stroke or not. you may have bent valves, if not you are lucky. the cams have pins to hold them in time and then the chain is installed with crank on #1 tdc (keyway up). if all is lined up correctly and it doesnt have compression, you have bent the valves. Water pump replacement is not a job for a DIY.

Will a broken timing belt damage the valves in 1990 toyota camry v6 dx

No damage will occur. This is a non-interference engine so all you will have to do is make sure the timing marks on the cams and crank are set properly.

I recently had to replace the headgasket on my 93 honda accord. I replaced the waterpump and timing belt/balance shaft belt a little while back. I had the head checked and installed everything back. And...

funny noises are hard to tell and discribe, could be the waterpump noise or a belt noise, or just the starter wine, you really need someone to listen while you start the car to help pinpoint the area

2002 hyundai accent DL sedan. my tension pulley

hi from uk to retime cambelt is as follows = the crank cog has a mark which lines up with corresponding mark on front of engine block mark is approx 12-30 o/clock this is TDC No 1 the the cam cog has a small drilled hole in one of the webs just below the cog teeth ? this hole has to be at 12-o/clock position and then using a small mirror if you look through this hole you will see a vertical notch on the front of block this is theTDC mark for cam you then fit belt anticlockwise from c/shaft to cam then round tensioner then release tensionor to tension belt and then lock it up torque both bolts 20 - 27Nm rotate engine manually 4 complete turns clockwise then recheck marks ok /re align ? then re assemble crank pully bolt torque is 140 -150 Nm may i just inform you? that your engine is what is known as interferance that is to say in event of c/belt failure there is more than likely valves to piston contact however this can also occure too if miss timed belt fitted and engine has tried to start ? a compression test on cylinders will confirm if this has happened or not ? hope this helps

Need to now where timing marks are located on 1997 chrysler sebring coupe 2.5Ljust replaced waterpump & timing belt and car will not start I didnot turn crank or cams when rplacing belt

Hello carolnaes: My name is Roger and I will help. The picture of the timing marks are attached. I will caution though that Mitchell repair calls this a interference motor. Meaning if the engine turns over with the belt off. The valves of the engine can and may be damaged. I also checked All Data and they said it could possible cause valve damage. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the quality of your answer. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger39f6dc5.jpg

Should the car start without alternator, waterpump and belts.

when you replaced the cam gear did you make sure that the timing marks where in line? If so than yes you should be able to start the engine providing all of the components are installed (ie.) the timing cover, new front seal(recomend you do this),crankshaft balancer, intake manifold, valve covers, etc. you should not need to install the alternater, power steering pump, waterpump and other accessaries at this point.
