This sounds like the water thermostat is faulty follow top water hose to where it joins the engines take apart the thermostat is what your looking at take it out place on floor (outside house) tip boiling water over the thermostat it should open up straight away if not buy new one not expensive & replace with new one assemble pipe & thermostat cover (normally made on aluminum) everything should now be okay working fine. Cheers, Malcolm Campbell.

Print
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Remove the fuel pump fuse from the panel.
  3. Start the engine and allow it to run until it stalls. Crank the engine for a few seconds to relieve additional fuel pressure.
  4. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  5. When repairs are complete, replace the fuel pump fuse and connect the negative battery cable.

Caprice 2008 LS V6, AC works perfectly on highway but stops working when I slow down or on traffic lights?

no idea offhand if their are external wires running to the thermostat then it may be possible to join them but if a manual one inside the pump then yes it will have to be stripped and changed if its possible to strip it with normal tools as some units just do not come apart

The heater will not blow warm air until you start driving. The fan blows but its cold air. Once you start driving the air turns warm. Why?

There may not be enough coolant in the system. What happends is the heating core is nothing more than a small radiator inside the car. If the fluid is low the heating core is empty. But once you start driving the water pump works harder and fills it up. Another possible cause is a sticking thermostat. If its stuck open the engine cant retain water to heat it up. Thus blowing cold air. Whith the engine cold remove the radiator cap and check your coolant level. If it is full a replacement thermostat may be needed. HTH and dont forget to rate.

Cooling fan wont come on when car reaches operating temp

There is either a break in the cable, which when you push the plug back on you get connection, or the switch is gone. I would say there is a break/lose connection where the cable joins the plug that actually joins the switch. try this. Get a pair of pliers and crimp the joint tightly. If this doesn't work, cut the wire as close to the plug as you can, bare about 5mm of the end of the cable, slip it into the contact side of the plug and push onto the switch, then if it's still the same do the same with the other side. Bet it works! Go to a motor factors, get two new plugs to fit on the prongs, crimp the bared cable into the plugs and he-presto! A repair for $1.00

I want to know where the thermostat is located

Assuming you mean the thermostat for the coolant...
For the 1.9TDI lump, look at engine, right side, low down, where several pipes join. It's held in by a pair of (I think) hex-head bolts. The heads can't be seen from the front because they face down & backward. Expect to lose coolant.
