1992 ego tracker , can't here fuel pump come on can drop some fuel in line and connect it will start but runs out of gas

Car sat for years , think it's the fuel pump , can't here the pump come on and not pumping gas to motor but some gas in the line

I have a 1992.

1) Verify the fuel pump relay is operating. When you turn the key full on, but not starting, do you hear a relay click on, then off after 2 seconds? That's the fuel system charging initially, then reaching pressure and turning off. If not hearing, check fuses, proceed to 2.

2) If you remove the gas cap and place your ear close, and don't hear a whir inside the fuel filler neck (have friend do the initial key on (but not running starter)...but do hear relay...then maybe is pump.

Note you can still hear a whir and have a bad pump...listen for quietness, and smoothness. Mine went bad, car ran at idle, badly at speed. Pump still ran but sounded wounded, made vibration.

3) This is not your situation since it starts but if you don't hear relay, don't hear pump, won't start, it seems like all is dead, then after verifying good battery and fuses, suspect ECM potentially.

Fuel pump: best is OEM but universal ones suited for this vehicle are available on ebay for not too much if you are handy with a soldering iron. Always replace the intake filters.

Dropping the tank is not too hard, but a) disconnect battery first, and b) try to siphon it first if it has a lot of gas (your fuel might be in bad condition if sitting around too long though). Haynes manual is somewhat helpful here. There are some screws up top going around a ring, remove those and it just pulls out. Take care working around fuel and vapors. I have had an aftermarket pump working 2 years now, was $25. I also try not to run the fuel too low like I used to, that can overheat the pump.

    own 4, ok, if door car, remove lest tail light lens, see connector, see pump pink wire, is it corroded, nd the black wire to body at 2 PM location in light PIT, is pump ground, bad? keyon you get 12vdc this pink wire, if not work forward, check, ig coil, and FI fuse, if 12vdc makes it here, then the pump is bad, or jammped with gunk parked so long.

    running low is ok, but not empty, the pump is fuel COOLED and fuel lubricated.

    the dash Cel lamp must glow or the ecu has no power, killing the pump relay, instantly. so CEL is first. on all cars. with EFI. as are ITS flash codes.

    the ECU cuts fuel for many reasons, (spark lost, cmp dead, and maybe if tps goes to 5v (ground cut there) also the 2 door(owned 4 ) the left rear tail light, see the pink wire connector pump is pink (rust) see that black wire at 3pm, that is pump ground and LOVES to rust, tell me get more. Ask

    the pump needs 12vdc to run, that be first. check that first and fuses, first. i can name the fuse's "FI" and "IG-coil" above left knee. 12vdc on both sides, key on, if not the ECU will be dead and pump, the pump is controlled 100% by the ECU, on all EFI cars. 100% so we check that the 12vdc hits the pink wire behind left rear tail light first. (cuz easy there) the pump runs for 3 seconds, each keyon (after 1989) and repeats, each key on. can be heard at filler neck, the fuel filter will be packed , same with injector screens (10micron sized) and the pump can be gunked up to , parked with bad gas. did you drain out the bad gas and see just how bad it was first, then drain the old filter , just off, and see that junk run out?> a big clue that "evidence" so flush it all out, and get the pump pressure back see all tests here, on that(no engine stated) URL:::: htt p://ww w.fixkick. com/INJECTORS/pump .html

The ECM has a blown capacitor inside it for opening the injector you will most likly need to get it rebuilt, buy a new ,or used ECM had the same problem with my sidekick.

SOURCE: 91 geo tracker won't start without rolling it off.

91 , is 8v motor. know it well and have full docs on it.
rolling it off , 5sp push starting dumping clutch. yes.
you forgot to say the magic words.

does it crank on its own , robustly.
,any engine will run with out a starter.
you need to elaborate on the symptoms.;

you forgot to say how you started car with test fuel.
gaps here.?
how far did you go , with push start, 1 mile , 50 miles?
im going to guess this is a NO CRANK car.

Have you checked the fuel regulator and the pressure from the fuel pump to ensure it is not weak. In addition, you might want to check and see if fuel is going into the cyl. the catalytic converter may be plugged based on the year of the car. To check this you could pull the o2 sensor out of the exhaust and see if it keeps running, realize it won't run at 100%. If it is the back pressure will not allow fuel to come into the cyl.

It is very common on the early geo trackers to have the fuel pump go out. If you remove the gas line were it connects to the fuel injectors and crank over the motor. Make sure you have a container to hold the fuel at the end of the hose in case the pump is working. Hope this helps!

I started my 92' Geo Tracker and started down my drive way when it just cut off. Now it will not start back, it is getting fire to the distributor cap,is full of gas and wil turn over but not start! Please...


Is the fuel pump running? When you turn the key to the run position (the dash lights come on), you should hear a humming sound coming from the gas tank for a few seconds. Thats the fuel pump running to pressurize the system before starting. It's kind of hard to hear, so get a friend to sit in the car while you lay on the ground near the gas tank. Have them turn on the key and listen. No hum means the fuel pump isnt working.

i dont think you do remove the back seat and right under there should be some screws or bolts with wires connected to the fuel pump removing the bolts should do the job

Geo tracker won't stay onas RPM drops in idle. Only pressing the gas keeps it on.


did you replace the fuel pump? if so was it an OEM or aftermarket pump, This happened to me on my van when I thought I would save a few dollars by using an aftermarket pump. I am not sure if your plenum has a test shrater valve. The plenum is what the injectors connect to that feed fuel to them. on this it normally has a valve like a bicycle valve this is where you connect a tester to check the fuel pressure. this is normally 6-8 psi on my car. yours maybe different. If the car is on this pressure should not drop.

92 accord lx leaking on fuel rail


Dont replace just one O ring on the injectors. You need to replace all when you replace them. It sounds like you still have O ring leaks.

No gas to manifold,car will start adding gas to throttle body


yes gas should be coming out of the fuel line at the motor. if not the pump is bad. you will need to drop the tank to get to it as it is in the tank
