battery may be too low to start due to low temperatures. does the car start normally with key or same problem exists. if not a problem with key then most likely it is the battery or alternator not allowing power to remain on
The light is supposed to stay on, when the key is used the system is not armed, it should not kill the battery if the battery is in good shape. I suggest you take it and have the battery load tested.
if you can get to the starter, give it a whack with a hammer on a rear corner of the bigger cylinder and see if it cranks. if it does, it will need to be replaced or rebuilt.
You may need a book for this. My first guess would be the key switch, but you will need to trace the circuit to see what is providing power with the key switch off.
i`d say your battery is already dead(not able to hold charge) the car requires the continuous flow of power from the altinator. if the the power dies then your altinator is not supplying it properly. get it checked and replaced if nesesary.
