I have a golf MK1 model 1992,I took out my 4 speed gearbox and put in a 5 speed. I can't get the linkages to line up correctly I do find the gears 1 to 5 but dont find reverse gear what could be the problem.

Sounds like you may have bent a shift fork or your cluster gear has some missing teeth on it now. I would venture to say that is it a bent shift fork. This will require the transmission be removed to gain access to inspect and repair.

you do mean its a 5 speed with a clutch right? If so you need to purchase a heavy duty clutch which should handle it well .. that is if its a 5 speed standard shift... holler if you need more Jerry
