I suggest that you check the firing order of the HT leads or coil pack positions as the firing order may be 180 degrees out.

Firing order set by crankshaft sensor and camshaft sensors don't understand how it could be 180 degrees out of time

  • Bill Boyd Nov 23, 2014

a good point . However the crank shaft positiopn sensor only tells the ECM when to fire the spark. It does not know it that spark is being fired at the right piston and that is why you have HT leads or coil packs, So if you have the timing mark on the crankshaft pointing to TDC you would expect that to spark on no 1 piston TDC . but what if you are out in the firing order and the TDC is actually firing on an exhaust stroke.. If you put the coil packs on the wrong plugs or the HT leads on the wrong plugs the cran position sensor will still the ECM to send a spark but which plug are you sending it to.

SOURCE: starter cranks and cranks but

This sounds like the fuel pump pressure check valve is defective, that is the usual cause of this long crank time issue, I am sure if you replace the fuel pump and filter the problem will go away. If you want to verify this issue have a shop run a fuel pressure leak down test, after the key is turned off the fuel press should not drop more than 5 PSI

Check the fuel pressure. A slight dip in pressure will keep the engine from starting. When is the last time you did a tune up? Even if you are getting some spark you might not have enough. New plugs, wires, distr. cap could solve this problem. Or try a new fuel filter. When diagnosing a car problem always do simple cheap things first, as this usually ends up being the cause.

2005 JAGUAR S TYPE TURNS OVER BUT WONT START AFTER ACCIDENT DOES IT HAVE FUEL CUTOFF SWITCH AND WHERE IS IT LOCATED

You likely tripped the Fuel Shut-Off Inertia Switch.
The inertia switch is located behind the trim on the right-hand
side of the vehicle, forward of the front door post, below the
fascia. Pull open the small panel in the trim to reset the switch.
Resetting the switch
CAUTION !!!:
To avoid the possibility of fire or personal injury, do not
reset the inertia switch if you see or smell fuel.
If no fuel leak is apparent, reset the inertia switch as follows:
Press the button!
If the switch was activated by the accident, you should feel it "click" when you reset it by pushing it.

2005 ford focus will turn over but wont start, it started missing, then it got loud now it wont start at all

As with any no-start situation, someone will need to figure out if you are lacking fuel to the injectors or spark to the plugs.
You may also have a failed timing belt and no engine compression.

If you have a weak spark it will not start since under compression it takes a much stronger spark to jump the gap as compared to a spark in normal air pressure. Try a good known working coil.

Get back to basics, run a compression check on the cylinder bores, these should be 150psi ish.

Check timing marks are in line.

Check for spark

Check you have fuel

It will be one of the above. A correctly timed engine with spark and fuel will start and should run.

Maybe try spraying easy-start into air intake? This rules out timing a spark to a degree if it fires up

So much to go at, hope this helps

My 2005 suzuki forenza wont start , Ive tried compression which is fine, sparrk which is good and new fuel relay, its good and gets frul

All a good start. You must consider timing. If the timing is off it will not fire correctly. There are cam and crank sensors that do the job, they must be checked.

2005 grand prix wont start?

If you deffinitely have fuel and spark then it must be a timing issue.

It's ok have fuel & spark but if in the wrong place at the wrong time it won't start. Check that the timing marks to and bottom are correct, the belt could have jumped.

Is it back firing into the inlet when trying to crank? Like a loudish popping noise.
