I too had this problem. I finally found out that my problem was the result of the metal contacts that touch the circuit board when you push the buttons had worn out. To correct my problem, I purchased a small pad that slides right inside the remote and fixes all the buttons. Since then, my remote has worked problem free for the past 3 months. It may be as simple as reprogramming your system. There is a way to re-synch your keys to the system. Use the instructions at:
That vehicle had a lot of problems with the PCM "Power Control Module" and that may be your problem.

assuming the 2005 model year stil uses viper security systems...the chip in the key carries a magnetic resistance frequency. if the chip is damaged or corroded the frequency will change and wont engage the igntion. you can either get another key made (about 75 dollars) or bypass the ignition lockout feature.
