Most ECM controlled engines have an EGR (exhaust gas recirculating valve) system. It is sued to lean out mixture with inert gases ( exhaust gas)/re-burn exhaust gases to meet pollution requirements.

In fixing this code, it is quite common for people to just replace the EGR valve only to have the OBD code return. The EGR valve is not always the culprit.
