I suggest that you go to an auto parts store and have them run a diagnostic it's usually free. If not you can purchase a small diagnostics tester for around $50. A thumbs up would be greatly appreciated if this answer is helpful to you. Have a GREAT DAY and GOD BLESS YOU.

SOURCE: Car wont turn over

Sounds like you have a bad starter. To check this you can try taking a hammer to the starter and tap it while someone in the car turns the key. If it starts you know you have a bad starter and need to replace it. Hope this helps you out

SOURCE: New battery in 03 VW Passat, engine turns but will not start.

Possible flooding, cold weather can freez open injectors causing them to leak into the cylinders. Press the gass pedal all the way to the floor and crank the engine for no more than 60 seconds. The cylinders will clear themselves allowing proper mix of air/fuel and should start easy. If that does not solve please specify if the engine is 1.8l or 2.8l.

SOURCE: vw passat 1.8t battery problem?

Hi

Either your battery has just given up the ghost,........ Is it the original, and now 10 yrs old ?
Or your Alternator is not charging enough, to replenish what is used.

Have battery tested first, if OK, then the alternator belt tension, and alternator for correct output charging rate.

If all these shows no faults, your starter is then suspect.

Good Luck !

A FixYa would be nice thanks !....John.

While driving down road my kia 2002 spectra just died and now when I turn key it just clicks and all the dash lights and radio go out

was there any warning lights before dieing ?it would seem to be an alternator/charging problem,is the serpent belt ok? try jump starting or changing the battery, if she starts then check for ignition charge light staying on, if she still wont start/turnover could be a starter motor problem or a jammed alternator, if she wont turn over on a fully charged battery or jump leads remove the serpent belt that drives the alternator/AC /power steering etc try starting again if ok switch off and try turning each pulley driven by the serpent belt by hand the only one you should not be able to turn is the main crankshaft pulley, if any of the others are hard or impossible to turn you have found the problem

1976 chevy stingray corvette, new battery it kicks in and sounds like it wants to start but it would start. Any idea why?

Mary...when you say "wants to start" I'm not sure if it turns over but won't start(sounds like lack of fuel or timing problem)or it won't turn over fast enough to start(again sounds like alternating problem and for a bit been running car off battery with no alternator till battery too low to turn engine over)...and what the heck is "starter fluid"???? No such thing.

It wont start at all and we put jumper cables and

You might want to have then check the alternator. Sometimes an alternator will test ok but once it has been running for a while, the dilinoids (not sure about the spelling), will basically cause a short circuit in the electrical system and the alternator is no longer charging the battery which drains the battery.

1989 honda civic runs but when you turn lights on car stalls out. Have checked alternator, fuses.

CHECK ALTERNATOR DRIVE BELT TENSION.MAKE SURE IT NOT TOO LOOSE.AND CHECK YOUR IDLE SPEED.IT SHOULD BE 700 - 800 RPM.IF IDLE SPEED TOO LOW ALTERNATOR WONT TURN FAST ENOUGH.BUT CHECK ALTERNATOR OUT PUT AT BATTERY.IT SHOULD BE 13.5 TO 14.5 VOLTS.IF NOT PROBLEM IN ALTERNATOR.CHECK ALTERNATOR FUSE AND ITS BATTERY FEED WIRE AND VOLTAGE REGULATOR WIRES.

I have replaced the battery started the car once and now the battery is dead. How do i check the alternator without taking it out of the car.

You can't check an alternator without running the car. I'd check for excessive system draw though by putting an ammeter between either of the battery cables and the battery and pulling fuses till draw diminishes substantially. then, track down the components served by that fuse. Your alternator can also draw if there is an internal problem usually with the bridge rectifier which short of a rebuild, can't be fixed (alt needs to be replaced) But I would not go there 'till everything else was tested.
On the other hand, if you started the car once and immediately (within minutes) the car did not start (engine not turning) I'd look closely at all battery connections, ground points, relays and starter itself. To knock a new battery down that fast would require a massive short circuit or a system disconnect somewhere. I'd also make sure the battery has 12volts in it and can withstand a load test. even a new battery can be defective....not often, but it can happen. Also make sure if you have a security system it has not engaged and isn't just doing it';s job.

96 Taurus just wont start

Sounds like that battery and alternator may be bad. The car will not run if the voltage is too low. Most autoparts stores will check for free....

98 accord wont start. lights flicker in dash and engine wont turn over

Have the battery checked.  You may have heard a fast clicking sound when the lights were flickering, if so it's coming from the starter solenoid.  If the battery is bad, have the voltage regulator and alternator checked also.  A bad voltage regulator or alternator will kill the new battery.

Try starting with jumper cables, if that works, you can pull the battery out, take it to a auto parts store that will test it for free (most parts stores will do this).  If it's bad, you can put a new battery in and then drive straight to somewhere to have the charging system tested.
