Question about Mercury Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I have a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis ,took off 26" wheels and replaced with original wheel 16" now car will not move while in gear, started to go in reverse then felt like brakes locked up now wont move

Removing over sized wheel's (26") back to original (16") now car will not move. wheel's are not rubbing on anything at all.

SOURCE: 2003 Ford Focus ZX5 Steering Wheel

All you need is two inexpensive things to fix this. 1. Hammer and 2. WD-40. First, put the key in the ignition and tap it with the hammer. (this should unlock the steering wheel and the iginition) Second, spray some WD-40 in the key opening on the ignition, then put the key in again and proceed to tap it some more with the hammer. (WHEN I SAY TAP THE HAMMER I DO NOT MEAN HIT IT WITH FULL FORCE)... Any who keep put WD-40 and tapping it until you can turn the key without the help of the hammer... (should be at least 4 times) THE PROBLEM IS THAT WITH TIME DEBRI BUILDS UP IN THE IGNITION, AND THIS CAUSES THE STEERING TO LOCK UP WHEN YOU PLACE THE KEY IN THE IGNITION. THE HAMMER UNLOCKS THE SPRINGS IN THE IGNITION AND THE WD-40 CONVERTS THE DEBRI TO LIQUID SO IT CAN CLEAN THE IGNITION...

SOURCE: car will not shift into gear

Sounds like a linkage/cable to me. Disconnect the linkage at the transmission and move the shift actuator by hand to see if there is the same things happening. Don't try to do this with the engine running unless someone is holding the brake inside the car.

Some of the air bag computers are mounted under the driver's seat. If it is, than the wiring can be dislodged by rear seat passenger's feet. If so try repluging in the wiring while the car is shut off.

2001 marquis speedometer stopped working. Replaced cluster- nothing, replaced speed sensor-- nothing, checked all fuses-- OK, stopped 3 wks ago when changine out rear air bags. What could the problem be?

check speed sensor signal at sensor and at cluster. Jack up drive wheels, Block other wheels, start car, put in drive. Then check both AC signals. The signal at the cluster is on pins 14 and 16. See diagrams below.

Need help in bleeding brakes on 92

Always start with the wheel furthest from the master cylinder. Have someone sit behind wheel and pump the brake pedal 5 times and hold the fifth pump to the floor. The other person, while the pedal is still held to the floor, opens the bleeder valve and releases all fluid and air and closes the valve. Then and only then does the person behind the wheel release the brake pedal. Repeat this process at each wheel until no sign of air bubbles are present in the fluid. Then move to the next closest wheel to the master cylinder. Be sure to periodically check and refill the brake fluid in the master cylinder. Good luck!

I have a 2003 mercury marquis. Both rear hubs

If you have the caliper and retaining rings off the park brake must be holding it. This vehicle has small parking brake shoes that apply to the inside of rotor hat. Try backing off the adjustment and tap the sides of the hat to free them up.
