My power windows on my 1997 ford explorer xl will not roll up or down from any of the controls. The fuses all look fine in the fuse box. I have reset the computer by taking the battery's negative cable on...

A very common problem on this vehicle. is broken wires. First disconnect the negative terminal on your battery. Next open drivers door. There's a rubber boot with the power wires to your windows inside. Pull the boot back and look for the light blue wire with a black stripe on it. This is the one that controls your windows and is probably compromised due to being pinched when the door opens and closes.( a factory flaw for sure). Hope this helps and good luck! Karl

My son tried to plug in a fuse (not even sure he plugged it into a fuse) and blew the fuse for the power windows and locks...where do i find the fuse box for these?

Improve the FixYa experience for everyone by voting.

There is one fuse box located under the dash on the drivers side above the gas and brake pedal. The second fuse box is located in the engine compartment on the drivers side close the the headlamp.

The exact fuse should be etched on the fuse box lid, on the top or inside the lid. If not, it will be in the owner's manual.

Driver window won't roll up and passenger wont roll down where are the fuses for these windows located?

the window fuses are in the fuse box
but i don't think that's the problem if a window will roll up but not down
or down but not up/////
open the driver door you will see a rubber tube going from the door to
the door jam open the rubber up ill bet you find a few broken wires
all you need to do is splice them back together

if you don't find any brakes in the fuse box the windows are setup
on breakers they might be bad Thar's always a first for every thing

hope this helps you
good luck

1997 ford explorer rear side doors not opening from inside. How to fix?

flip the child safety clip. when you open the door, either from the outside or by rolling the window down and reaching out of it, with the door open look at the inside part of the door where if it were closed would set against the frame of the car. there should be a very small switch or tab that you can move either up or down to engage the child safety mechanism. this safety device is for kids who try to open doors while the car is in motion.

Outside handle on 1997 Toyota Avalon will not open door

Since you can get the door open, half the battle is already won. Yes, open the door, pull the interior door panel and take a look around. Watch inside with a flashlight (towards the rear of the door) as you roll the window down to see if you can see what it's snagged on.

Dashboard light is indicating that a door is open so the dome light wont go out. Is it a door switch...and if so, where are they located?

They can be located in the area where hinges are or the swotch can be located at the door jam pillar.

1997 ford exibition xlt my interior light and running board lights wont go off along wiith the door ajar light on dash board. please help

Take some WD40 and open the doors and spray a liberal amount into each of the door latches. Then open and close the doors firmly several times. This will work most of the time to unstick the ajar switches.

Blown fuse

power windows are on their own ckt .you probably have a bare wire in the drivers door jam where it flexes in the rubber conduit, operate the window while opening and closing the door and see if it blows the fuse.
