Put a new alternator and battery on the truck but still does not charge

Hi George,
I need year--make--model--engine size.
Usually the alternator needs excite voltage or no charge. The alternator bat terminal should be hot all the time, even with key off, if it isn't, something wrong with that wire circuit.

98 chevy malibu my alt isnt charging new alt batt test good cut out the fuselink on starter the alt wire runs thru firewall If i run a wire straight to the batt it is putting out 19v any suggestions

Did you check the fuse in the under hood fuse box ? GEN / BATT fuse 10amp . Is your check engine light on ? This is a computer controlled charging system , it should have four wires connected to the alternator . 1 - the heavier wire on the back ,this comes fro the starter - the one with fusible link , you could have checked for battery voltage with voltmeter ! The three other wires in the connector are the orange one ,this comes from the GEN / BATT fuse an should have battery voltage ! The last two come from the PCM - engine computer . The gray wire is the turn on signal from the PCM an the Red wire is the control from PCM ! Charging System Wiring Diagram MOTOR Magazine Article MOTOR Information Systems

84 camaro good battery and alt so the part store says but after one start battery is dead have all new wires ?

Battery is only used to start engine.
after charging battery, start car. remove Negative cable, if car dies, wiring to alternator is faulty.

if continues to run, shut off car and all accessories. install ammeter between Neg. cable and battery, if it shows a draw, pull fuses one by one to find circuit with draw while car is off.

I have an 89 yj , i just replaced altenator , battery , positive cable , ground cable, put an hei distributor on it with new plugs and wires and a solenoid and my voltmeter is in the red after about 15 run...

I would think your starter is over heating (grounding) which is draining power from batt which is making alternator use its charging capabilities to the max . starter motor is what id check. this isnt a little 14 gage wire robbing all that power so quick, it is a direct connection within the batt, starting or charging system.

Jeep doesn't start. Turn key, hear slight click in fuse box but nothing else? Took battery out to be checked Pep Boys says its good, needs a "slight" charge. Went home reinstalled the clean...

clean all connections very good ( batt post connectors, gound wire from batt to frame/motor, also clean starter connections, and alternator connections) I know pep boys checked but you cannot properly check a battery unless it has a full charge!!!!! If it wont accept a full charge then batt is bad, If it charges to a full charge and fails a draw test the batt is bad. also when a draw test is done you can have the charging system checked also to make sure batt is recieving the proper charge input. all inexpensive checks, get it running and take it to a garage, 3 min test usually not even a charge most of the time. NOT A DEALER, and have them show you what they are doing. if you are a female have a male friend go with you or have it done. I dont care what anybody says!!!!!! When it comes to a inexperienced female, the DEALERSHIP,the REPAIR GARAGES will all try to get some kind of MONEY out of you before you leave their place of business.

ON MY 94 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE the new alternator is not charging batt and when you take off positive cable it shut s the motor down . . .i thought it was supposed to srtay running

Wow. No, you need both cables on the battery for the vehicle to tun, and taking a cable off while it is running is potentially dangerous to you and to the vehicle. You can damage the computer and certain electronic components by doing that, including the alternator.

How do you know the alternator is not working? Did you measure voltage at the battery with the vehicle off and the with the vehicle running? The difference should be a volt or two, dependeing on the ambient temperature and condition of the battery.

1999 COUGAR V6 BATT WAS ON SO I REPLACED THE

possibilities:

loose belt, if it is worn then it will not keep the battery charged...
loose ground wire or bad ground wire...
possibly bad alternator, not keeping the battery charged enough, that would explain the stalling, and loss of power.. hope this helps you.....
