I would lean more towards the water pump or the power steering pump. Check the fluid in your power steering reservoir and watch the temp gauge for hotter than normal.

SOURCE: Need help replacing a serpentine belt....any ideas

Locate the belt tensioner. There should be a place on it where you can insert a 3/8's drive, or 1/2" drive ratchet. Once you get the ratchet in position, you can remove the belt by either pushing down, or pulling up the ratchet handle.

I would start with a belt. While removing it feel how much tension the tensioner has on it, on the 3800 egnine they have a stiff tensioner(sorry I don't have any specs for how much) After you get the belt off you can look at all of the pulleys and spin them to see if the bind or look for stuff stuck in the grooves on the pulleys.
It sounds to me like the belt is streched. I would not recommend one of those gator back belts, they seem to make more noise sooner than a good v notch belt. But thats just my opinion!

SOURCE: squealing coming from alternator pulley bearing.

clean the glaze off the pulley first. If the squeaking is still present replace the bearing. They are sold separately at Berry Bearings nation wide. The Altenators case will have to be opened up to remove the bearing

I have a chirping or bearing sounding noise, that I am trying to isolate on my daughters college car. Sound varies with RPM.

Get an inexpensive mechanics stethoscope and put the end on the shaft part of idler pulleys, housing near bearings of alternator and water pump etc.
If that doesn't give clear results, try squirting a little water on the serpentine belt as if runs [a length of small drip irrigation hose works really well to get a little water on the belt]. The water will provide harmless temporary lubrication to the belt and change the sound if it is caused by the belt slipping.

My 2002 chevy cavalier smells like burning plastic inside of the car when I get in after warming it up on cold days. I also have a whining sound when I accelerate and is now a high pitched squeal. It...

My guess would be you either have an oil leak that is causing the smell and causing the serpentine belt to slip, or you have a pulley for the serpentine belt that is not spinning freely and causing the belt to slip. A slipping belt can also cause the burning smell that you describe. You might have a AC compressor clutch that is failing and not freewheeling correctly, you could have an alternator with a bad bearing, you could have an idler pulley or tensioner pulley with a bad bearing, etc. I'd certainly be checking for an oil leak as well though.

Car stalls accelerate properly

sounds like your alternator is seizing up. take of the serpentine belt and turn the alternator by hand if it sweels or don`t turn, time to replace it. easy fix if thats the case. while your belt is off check the other pullys as well.

IS THIS A SERPENTINE BELT OR AND INDIVIDUAL ALTERNATOR BELT?
I'M GOING TO GUESS (ONE MAIN BELT)...SERPENTINE, AND THE TENSIONER IDLER PULLEY IS BINDING...NOT ENOUGH TO SMOKE THE BELT, BUT TO MUCH PRELOAD ON THE ALTERNATOR BURNING UP BEARINGS

My mountaineer squeals when the car is running and even worse when I accelerate. What is the problem?

there are few possibilities. your serpentine belt may be old and streched out, or the tensioner for it may squeal. Thappens more often. Another problem may be wit the alternator bearings that can make that noise

99 Altima with 190k miles warbling noise

It sounds like your water pump is going it usually vibrates throughout everything if it was your alternator it would show signs with your power the easiest way would to take your belt off remembering the belt route and spin the alternator pulley and the water pump pulley to see if they spin freely without noise

My Serpentine belt is squealing above idle

first thing you need to do is get a new belt that belt dressing just destroyed that belt that stuff is no good then get a new belt tensioner clean all the pullys with some brake clean then install the belt tensioner and belt if its still sqealing there maybe a pully making the noise to check that when you have the belt off spin them by hand and listen to them and feel for any play in the bearings
