In general, when it comes to Volkswagen plug gaps, the spark plug gap for fuel injection models is (.028 inches) and the gap for carburetor models are set at (.024inches). Whether it is fuel injection or carburetor is what is important.

1.1 mm is the standard gap for a platinum tipped plug. Plugs for this car usually come pre-set but it's always worth checking before installing. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: How do I change the spark plugs on a BMW 523i

The spark plug change is very straight forward. Basically, you remove the plastic valve cover trim panel, unplug the harness plugs from each of the ignition coils, remove the two nuts securing each coil, pull the coil up. The rubber spark plug connector boot should come up with the coil. You can now remove the spark plugs.

The spark plugs are not gappable. Install them as they come out of the box.

Replace the rubber connector boots at the same time, these wear out and can cause miss-fire problems.

Note that if you find oil in the spark plug wells, the valve cover gaskets must be replaced. Not only does this make a mess, but it deteriorates the boots and also causes miss-fires.

See the DIY article in the Spring 2005 issue of the Bavarian Autosport - Fast Times newsletter (see link below):

Contact Bavarian Autosport for the spark plugs and connector boots (and valve cover gaskets) at 800-535-2002, or order online.

SOURCE: What is the correct spark plug gap for hyundai

Actually I just redid the plugs and wires for an 01 I just got as a DD. The NGK Iridiums I put in said to gap them at .044 in, the label under the hood says between .039 and .043 and I'm guessing that's for the OEM plugs.

I have 1998 vw cabrio just did a tune up runs great in idle put in drive car dies at 20mph can get car to 45 mph but very slowly why?

sounds like either the spark plugs weren't gapped right or the wires are in the wrong locations.
Google search the firing order and check the wires/loactions first, then if they are correct, have a look at the spark plug gaps.

What is the correct spark plug gap for 1990 VW Jetta GLi (2.0L, 16 valve, 4 cylinder)?

The proper spark plug gap for a 2.0L is .7 to.9 mm or .28 to .35 inchs. If you are using multiple electrode plugs, gap is not adjustable. Also when you put your new plugs back in the book calls for 15 ft.lbs. of torque, so don't tighten them too hard ( aluminum strips easy). Hope this helps.
