1992 GMC ac compressor not engaging no click when I turn ac on also ac light flashing on dash

Get yourself a couple of cans of refrigerant and a hose to do this,it comes as a kit at the auto parts store,or ask someone there.Connect the hose to the can with the needle out, then connect the other end to the fitting on the car, there's 2 fittings but will only fit one of them(they have a cap like a tire fill on them)then screw the needle in to puncture the can top and with engine running, the can will empty and refill your system. You maybe need a second can if this doesn't cause the clutch to ingage.Have the A/c ingaged too.[ut the cap back on when done.Dispose of the can properly and keep the hose.Have your system tested for leaks, they make a sealer in the same style cans for leaky systems.

Air conditionor was noisey then turn on engine would stop ,now it will not do anything even if set on max air cond. where is fuse?

It is possible you are low on freon, if so the clutch will not ingage, It is also possible that the Clutch on the compresser went out., If this happens it would break the belt because the clutch wont turn....good luck

Standard shift, v6, 3.2, and can't ingage shifter into gear. Replaced slave cylinder and master cylinder. Bleed unit, after starting it looses pressure on clutch pedal not allowing gear to ingage. With...

Sounds like you may have air trapped in the system.Try this trick.Remove the bleeder screw from the slave cylinder.Place your finger over the hole to act as a one way valve, allowing air and fluid to escape but not allowing air to get sucked back in.Then have someone stroke the pedal slowly making full strokes, keep an eye onn the resevoir so that it does not get low and fill the system with more air.If there is room turn a bottle of brake fluid upsidedown in the resevoir to keep it from running dry. After you have run a bottle of fluid through it replace the bleeder and pump and bleed the old fashioned way a few times. If there is air it should be gone.If clutch will still not disengage the something is wrong with clutch plate and or pressure plate.Good luck!

Ac clutch squeals when i hit the gas no matter if ac is on or off but not at idle 98 jeep gc 5.9 need steps to replace clutch assembly

Are you certain that it's the clutch assembly?
Check the idler pulley. Poor tension in the idler pulley spring will cause the belt to squeal AT THE ALTERNATOR, and it may sound like it's coming from the AC.
The AC pulley typically "freewheels" when the AC is not on and the engine is running.
Have someone turn the AC on and off while the engine is running and watch the operation of the AC clutch. If it's working properly, the clutch should "click" and the back part of the pulley should start turning or try to turn.
If the squealing noise continues when the clutch is freewheeling, it's probably the idler pulley. If the AC Pulley won't start freewheeling, it's probably the clutch.
To remove the clutch system,
  • disengage the idler pulley and remove the serpentine belt from one of the pulleys.
  • rent, purchase or borrow a puller from a local auto parts retailer (Auto Zone and O'Reilly auto parts are both helpful)
  • some of the clutch systems have retaining bolts, some are just pressed in, figure out what you have before removing the clutch assembly using the puller.
  • The puller is also designed to help put the NEW clutch assembly back on the shaft.
The idler pulley assembly is a lot easier to replace.

Sqeeling noise from engine are when i put foot down on accelarator pedal sound like a belt maybe what do you think?

It could be a belt, if there is more than one belt on your vehicle, make a visual inspection of their condition with engine off, press on the belt side, where the pulleys are more separated to check the deflection, it should not deflect more than 1", get a can of Belt Dressing and spray some on the inner part of the belt(s). If problem continues, make sure the compressor clutch is not seizing up, turn A/C "ON" set it to MAX and check for strange noises on the front of the compressor (the part that turns with the belt is the compressor clutch,) turn A/C OFF and check again, there should be no noise coming from the compressor clutch, If it is too noisy with A/C OFF, have the compressor checked.
A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa.

The compressor on my 1997 ford aerostar is smoking.

This is not going to be good news for you. You are going to need to fix this immediately if turning off the A/C does not stop the smoking. The compressor is safeguarded by several cutoffs.

Turn your A/C off and use only the vent. The compressor clutch in front of the compressor is the part the belt rides on. The pulley should freewheel without the A/C on or the Defrost setting on.

If the compressor clutch fails to freewheel, disconnect the electric connection at the compressor. Should the clutch continue to turn the entire clutch(both the front and back plates) you will burn up the belt and lose every connection that belt works.

The cutouts for the compressor are suppose to blow fuses and thermal links to prevent overheating the parts. At a minimum your compressor bearings are probably destroyed and the oil and Freon have leaked out of the system. If you can still find an Obama rebate van with the A/C intact you can remove the compressor with clutch from a Salvage yard.

There are some special "O" rings on the lines that need tools designed for them and you will need an A/C shop to purge the system and refill it. Or a Vacuum purge pump is available for deposit at Autozones and Oreilys. But with the connections this is a sizeable job. Good Luck, there are no shortcuts I can give you.
