Question about Chevrolet S 10

1990 s10 2.5 have replaced the plugs wires cap rotor and temp sensor on thermostat housing it idles rough and boggs somewhat when you get on the gas please help have spent 150 on it and its not fixed

If you haven't recheck that your wires are on right. if this is an injected engine put an expensive bottle of fuel cleaner in.

HMM, ya ont get a code unless ya figure out how to read the morse code values the OB1's use. Hmm sputters, and rough idle can be from poor air circulation, as well fuel delivery.

first air.......inspect and clean your vacuum hoses, cracks and leaks will most notably ruin your day. as well as the performance of your ride. check the seal for your intake hose around the throttle body, then clean the ports in and around your throttle body as well. Bad air supply, poor idle.. follow me..

second is fuel delivery. Your getting your gas, thats evident, but are you getting the required amount. hard to guage unless you disconnect a line and test its pressure. so lets USE the KISS method.. KEEPING IT SIMPLE STUPID

first, check and or replace your fuel pressure regulator...

second, inspect condition of your fuel filter.

thrid, and certianly the last thing, your fuel pump. go in that order. or your gonna seriously annoy yourself when a 5 dollar fix turns into a 3-400 dollar fix.

Check the vacuum line to the fuel pressure regulator and check to see if the fuel pressure regulator has gone bad. Give the throttle body a good cleaning and the injectors too. Do not use carb cleaner, it's to corrosive for the gaskets used in the throttle body. The other thing too that would cause this is a stuck or bad EGR valve, Try cleaning the EGR valve too since your cleaning the throttle body. Good luck and keep me posted.

Perform a valve clearance inspection and adjust if necessary. Tight or sticking valves will cause a misfire or rough running concern. Note: Perform valve adjustment when the engine is stone cold. 4cyl: INT 0.26mm EXH: 0.30mm (V6 engine are hydraulic and no adjust necessary.) Also check for a sticking or stuck open EGR valve. For diagnostic purposes only: Remove the EGR valve. Place a business card over the EGR passage and bolt the EGR valve back on. This plugs the EGR ports and if the misfire goes away the EGR valve is partially stuck open and is defective.
Check for low fuel pressure. Check for low compression. Check cam timing. Check for a weak ignition coil. Also don't over look the possibility of worn or broken engine mounts which cause excessive engine movement and engine vibration. -hope this helps

OK, and now it looks like coachjoehutc is thinking the same as me. When I look up your car, it takes me to the Mazda Millenia engine--does that sound right? It only shows 2 cam sprockets, but maybe there's a gear in the head to turn the other cam? Anyway, I'm pasting a picture of the marks. There's a little tang coming off the head that marks the timing. Now unfortunately it appears the timing covers are the one-piece type that stretch all the way down (I was hoping there would be a section on the top you could remove to see the gears). I hate for you to have to take the whole front off and find out I'm wrong, so maybe you can just remove the upper cover screws and, if the cover is plastic, it may let you bend it out far enough to see those marks on the gears (????). If so, then rotate the engine to TDC for #1 (there is an ignition timing tab to use for that around the one o'clock position). Look for the marks on the gears--if I'm right, they will only be off the tangs by a tooth (any more and the engine wouldn't run). If you don't see the dots on the gears, you're on the exhaust stroke and need to turn the engine another 360. Is this all making sense? Let me know if you have questions.

I am having the same issue on Mitsubishi Galant 02. Clattering on acceleration, herky jerky idle. Pulled a code multiple cylinder misfire. My mechanic's diagnosis is bad valve cover gasket causing oil to seap into the spark plugs and bad timing belt, which I have not replaced at 150k miles. I do however know my fuel injectors do need cleaning, he hasn't ruled that out either. Have you pulled any code on it? I have read on engine knock sensor going out on some of these also. Hope this helps some.

What would cause 93 chevy c1500 rough idle smells of excess gas at exhaust

Does the truck seem fine when you first start it & then acts up when it reaches operating temp?
That would lead me to look at my oxygen sensor, a bad sensor can cause the truck to run "rich" which would explain the fuel smell in the exhaust.

I inherited a 1990 Charade when Dad died in 2001.
Did you try a simple tune-up? Plugs, Distributor Cap, Plug Wires, Rotor Bug..?
Worse case scenario Timing Belt slipped a notch..

Oxygen sensor only report the condition of the engine the rough running condition can range from a worn sparkplug wires to worn sparkplugs to valve problems to injector problems. with the cadillac deville a tune up should be the first attempt to smooth the rough idle with the inspection of the cap and rotor cap and rotor do have a tendancy to arc internally and create misfire so does sparkplug wire that can leak spark voltage to ground and create misfire. the spark plug wire especially if they are brittle and hard can create issues

Rough idle 1990 mercury cougar

Can be several things. May just need a tune up:spark plugs, wires, rotor cap and button, fuel filter, air filter. It may also need a timing adjustment, Idle Air Control (IAC) valve, or throttle position sensor. Do the tune-up first and see what it does.

1990 K1500 running rough. Replaced plugs, wires, sensors. It runs rough with a load on it. Any suggestions?

Check distributor cap and rotor for carbon tracking(cracked cap). Perform compression test.If more than 10% difference between cylinders perform leakage test to find compression leak.

I have a 1990 Toyota 4 Runner. It idles rough, sprays too much fuel, and can't rev up. I installed new plugs, plug wires, and cap and rotors, even switched the computer mas airflow sensor and distributor...

Couple of thoughts if you are sure it is spraying to much gas... Have you checked the fuel pressure? If the regulator it bad, pressure may be to high, that would cause it to run rich/spray to much gas. Sometimes a bad temp sensor can cause it also, if computer thinks a hot engine is cold due to bad sensor, it will run rich. Way outside the box is... have you checked Alternator voltage? With engine running, check voltage at Battery, it should not be much over 14.5, if it is way high, it screws everything up. I have never seen a TPS cause the problem.

it may be one of the water temp. sensors at the thermostat housing.

also check the plug, wires,distributer cap and rotor.
