First I have to correct an error of the first answerer to your question because it could damage your valves. DO NOT do a compression test until you have verified the timing chain is working well. There should be an inspection cover somewhere, but my hunch is it's not the timing chain. When timing chains break they usually make a lot of noise before they go, like metal on metal clattering and tapping and ticking in the weeks or months before they break. Not heard of one making a loud bang and suddenly failing. I think you may find it's something else like a thrown rod or something. To check for a thrown rod you can do usually easily by removing the oil pan and looking up at the pistons. Also once the pan is off you should be able to see the timing chain.

My first diagnostic step would be to remove the plugs and do a compression test. This will ONLY pass if the valves, pistons and gaskets are good. From there it becomes a computer test and associated sensor test
hope this helps

You will need to have it towed
& a professional strip the entire
front of the motor, that along takes all day

Expensive repair for sure

No way to know how much is worn or
damaged until it is apart or the cost
of the repairs

the intakes go bad on these engines....... they leak coolant in the cylinders and cause a hydro lock that causes the rods to bend making the piston skirt hit the crank......" clicking noise" theres a law suit in progress for this issue......... you can find info on the internet

SOURCE: my truck blows white smoke

Hello!
There are two differnt reasons for black and white smoke coming from the tail pipe.
Black smoke means fuel runs rich (car getting to much gas). Check fuel pressure/air filter.
In some cases the white smoke means car is burning oil or transmittion fluid. Have tem checked/replaced.
If you can feel a smelly smoke it can be catalytic converter.
In a worsest scenario if car blowing white smoke it can be engine coolant is getting into an engine cylinder from a bad head gasket ,or a warped/cracked head. So you need to keep your eye on coolant level and check your engine for overheat. Also might be good to check your oil for traces of coolant (on a dipstick it would be a milky substance mixture of oil and coolant).
Good Luck

SOURCE: Black smoke when i start engine, very rough idle.

sounds like possible a sensor went bad or is loosly connected. O2 sensor??? Also check the air filter. Sounds like whatever it is, is making the truck run rich----that would be the black smoke.

Hope this helps

Did a timing chain replacement on dodge ram 5.2 ran rough then shut off

I would say it's a pretty sure bet that you somehow got the valve timing wrong when you installed the new chain. I assume that you had a good service manual to take you through the exact installation procedure - if not, you should. Its just one of those things that is very easy for a first timer to screw up and its one of those procedures that you always want to double and triple check before you put everything back together.
Of course if you have a distributorless ignition system, like most modern cars and trucks, then I suppose you also could have damaged a crank angle sensor or just forgotten to plug it back in. If thats the case then the ECU will through out a code though and that is easy enough to check. I assume you have a code reader of some kind.

Replaced timming chain now does want to run correctly bad fumes

It sounds like the timing chain was replaced one tooth off. The only other option if the timing chain is correct would be to adjust the ignition timing. Since the timing chain was replaced I would think it to be the first problem.

My car is overheating it has oil and water and it's not leaking, can anyone help me ?

the pop you heard was likely a hose burst. dont go by what water is in your overflow tank. need to check coolant at the radiator cap but only when its stone cold.

Symtoms of a bad timimg chain/belt...but ran real

Problem is not solved but I did change the fuel filter, coil pack,ICM and have proper fuel pressure to the motor. Car starts but dies right away. I cant seem to find out if the fob on the key ring has something to do with stopping the motor. This fob says Radio Key by Secure Key with a number 35077 stamped on this thing.. Still trying to find out what this is and does it effect the cars ability to run

1995 ford f250 7.3 dissel runs rough

How many miles is on the engine?
If it's close to 140,000 miles then it's over due for timing chain and timing guide change.
A loose timing chain will offset timing.
===
Before you do the next oil change. Add a motor flush to clean out the internal parts and free up the rings.
This is the inexpensive method to restore some of the lose compression.
==== Do a 5-10 minutes high rpm highway ran (NO REDLINE).
This will blow out the soot in the exhaust system. ====
Check your vehicle emission batch under the hood.
If it's from California or has California emission then let look for the catalytic converter.
Over time it can become restructed.
As a test, loosen the bolts at the collector pipe and do a short test ran.

Please post any additonal information on the commect window. I will follow up on it.
