SOURCE: E85 fuel in a regular gas tank

Siphon out as much of the E85 as you can and fill the tank with good gasoline and drive it like you stole it for a while. You can't drain a tank without removing it and the fuel filter isn't going to catch anything in the E85. This is what I would do anyway.

SOURCE: RX300 Engine Stalls when I take foot off the gas pedal.

The Idle Air Control (IAC) valve is clogged. This part feeds air to the engine at start-up and idle when the throttle bodies are closed. I removed the throttle body assembly from my 2001 RX300 and separated it from the IAC. After a good cleaning with throttle body cleaner the IAC was good as new. I later decided to replace it during routine maintenance. You can pick up a brand new IAC on eBay (genuine Lexus/Toyota part). The dealer will want upwards of $400.00 for a 45 minute job (all you need are basis hand tools).

SOURCE: wont hold idle will start with foot depressing gas pedal will run with foot on gas but stalls when foot removed

Check and clean Idle air control valve. Make sure its responding to signal as well. Also make sure ther are no vacuum hoses disconnected. This may not be a "cure" but it's a good place to start.

SOURCE: Car will not start without pressing gas pedal to

Have the idle bypass valve checked, also called idle air control valve.
If that valve is stuck in the closed position, it's not allowing the fuel to bypass the throttle plate to keep it idling, resulting in stalling, but will keep engine running if the pedal is pushed down.

I have an 85 ss Monte Carlo with an edelbroch carburetor. There is fuel getting to it to start however I have to hold my foot on the gas to keep her running as soon as I take my foot off the pedal it dies....

First off you need to stop running it when this problem is present. There is a big chance that it will catch fire and be destroyed. If sounds to me like it is getting too much fuel and you need to remove the carb and rebuild it. This would include a new float because it probably sank.

Starts dies

an alternator won't stall your car, the battery provides power to keep the spark going. It sounds like you could have some bad fuel, if you're able to run the throttle manually with your foot and keep it going that would indicate idle control. but if it stalls still when you are giving it gas. I would guess a fuel supply issue, either water in your gas, or fuel pump. Good Luck.
