How do I temporarily keep 2003 GMC 1500 transfer case from engaging

Loud grinding noise starts around 20 to 30 mph. Sounds as if transfer case trying to engage. I am wanting to do something so I can drive it to a transmission shop for diagnosis - thanks

SOURCE: four wheel won't engage

Theres a vacume dash pot under the battery box. It pulls a cable that engages the front diff. Put the vacume line and you'll have lights and four wheel drive. (it happened to my blazzer)

My 2000 Chevy silverado 1500 z71 wont move. used 4wd then tried to put back into 2wd it would shift into any gear. Put back in park it makes a grinding noise

Sounds like your transfer case in neutral. You have to engage the transfer case back into gear then shift selector to drive or reverse. When your transfer is in neutral the transmission will not operate. Good luck.

4wd messed up in dodge 1500

inspect for worn components from output of transfer case to front diff input. If everything is tight and solid from those two points, everything else points to being transfercase internals. Make sure your actuator isn't faulty causing a "4x4 to 2x4 shift on/off"

4 Wheel Grinds on Engage

make sure that your vehicle has a "on the go" 4wd operation
if not , you will have to all but stopped to get around the gear slashing
if you have "on the go " engagement , then is a problem in the synchro rings of the transfer case
take it to an accredited transmission specialist for a proper diagnosis

I have a 1999 chevy silverado Z71 1500 5.3. It makes loud grinding and poping noises when I put it in gear how do I know if its the transmission or the transfer case?

the transfer case only engages when in 4wd. check the universal joint, it connects from the drive shaft to the rear differential. it may need grease or to be replaced.

It feels like my 4WD is trying to engage when I am driving down the road. a terrible grinding noise comes and goes in my font end. What could this be?

The encoder motor on the transfer case could be engaging slightly.A c0327 is usually set in the transfer case module.Replace the sensor in the encoder motor if this code is present.

My front transfer case on my 1997 Ram 1500 is

If you've been 4X4 driving a lot it could be that your gears are binding up . Meaning . . if you've ever had your vehicle locked in 4 and decided to hit pavement without unlocking, ( even if it was only a short distance, ie: a block or to), your gears have a bind on them which in time will really cause major problems. Starting with being hard to get into and out of 4WD and grinding noises. there are a few other things it could be instead but starting with this no cost attempt to finding out, I suggest you try it. You might be suprised. Put the truck in neutral . Jack up the front and rear of the truck and secure withjack stands. the wheels should give up what bind there is at that point.
