The most likely issue is a clogged or contaminated catalytic convertor. Especially if you were having a lot of carbon in the exhaust from a worn out motor. Remove the catalytic convertor and see if it is plugged up.

Starts then dies.97 couger

Try disconnecting negative battery cable for a few minutes then reconnect. This will reset computer. Worked on my wife's car. It would start and shut off 2 seconds later for no apparent reason. Do you have a check engine light on? Could also be caused by a bad maf/map sensor or tps sensor

97 buick century was running after jump started, when put in reverse it died and wont start when jump start, no chimes or lights come on at all

Dangerous practice to try & jump a near dead battery

Always try charging a battery, that is only a couple years
old & not run down more than two or three times

If the battery is dead & reads less than 12 volts, have a parts
store test it or just replace it.

Jumping a cars battery is not a fix for anything,so I fail to
see how your lost & have not addressed the battery issue,
so you can continue on with other testing,if needed

How to change camshaft

Not sure I follow your story. A 97 Jeep would have a distributor so there is no cam sensor.
Do you know if you are loosing fuel or spark when it fails to start ?
Have you checked the asd relay ?

check the battery posts and terminals are shiny clean as dirty terminals/ loos terminals will cause these symptoms. have a load test done on the battery to check for bad cell. have a test done on the alternator for correct out put and check the condition and tension of the drive belt.
